No offense or anything, but if a school bus is tailgating the vehicle in front and the school bus in back is tailgating the school bus in front, there is something drastically wrong here absent a mechanical failure (Which I doubt)


Tailgating is the only reason multi-vehicle wrecks like this happen, I hope it is a wake-up call for people who do this that your tailgating actions hurt innocent people around you.


God forbid texting is involved. If it is, this state will sure see a push for a ban soon

My sister lives near the accident site and my parents in Washington, MO. My BIL happened to be West bound on I-44 soon after this took place. Just got off the phone with my sis. Apparently the driver of the GMC pickup was a 19 year old Sophomore at MU and 3rd string Quarterback for the Tigers.

She told me that apparently the road tractor stopped about 100' before the traffic actually slowed to a crawl, the pickup then slammed into them at about 70mph. The first bus driver apparently was watching her mirroors because there was a car nearly on the highway on the shoulder and she slammed into the pickup, over it and onto the back of the road tractor. The second bus then braked hard but slammed into the first bus pushing it on top of the road tractor and completely smashing the pickup.

very sad. 2 buss drivers who were not doing there job correctly.

Tailgating is a big safety problem going on all over all day. I'd support a big effort to reduce it - education, enforcement, etc. Pay for much of it with fines.

Waggy, if the kid in the pickup 'slammed into the back of the truck at 70 mph', you did not mention HIM as at fault in the accident.

Sorry to a forum with disproportionate young guys, but IMO young guys are a big driving problem too, and we could benefit from better driver's ed there too.

I've long felt we could use more traffic cops for the humanitarian reason of reducing traffic injuries, paid for by the fines.

I say this as I'm about to book traffic school for my first ticket in years, for 80 on the freeway rushing to an appointment, costing me hundreds of dollars.

Speeding is actually WAY less dangerous than tailgating. In fact, it's only where you are too close to other cars that your speed really matters.

If you don't tailgate, you are guaranteed to not hit the person in front of you.

THat is unless the person tailgating YOU isn't so big they push you into the car infront of you and crush you like a tin can
