You're expecting a 4 year old to be more "responsible"?

I'm the first guy who'll stand up and rail on about "personal responsibility" for adults, but for 4 and 5 year olds? Give me a break.

Metal trucks are just too dangerous. They rust, they bend and can get sharp (I had one when I was little was had some pretty sharp corners).

That's dangerous stuff.

I am pretty sure CR meant the responsibility of the parents to watch thier kids so they didn't beat little JLGatsby on the head with them.

On second thought maybe the parents should let thier kids beat little JLGatsby on the head with a metal toy truck.

You would be correct. I didn't have any problems using my metal truck as a child. Kids today are pussies, this is a reason why.

Me and my twin bro had many of those things when we were younger. They were so fun! But we noticed that they did indeed switch to plastic. Stupid child advocates You dont see the real construction industry using plastid bulldozers!

fvcking parents who are soo safety concerned. back when i was a small lil spermie kids would be sitting in the far back of seats facing behind them as a car smashes into the back of their car.

there was no such thing as child proof, toys had small parts, and were heavy and metal.

I remember those toys very well. It's sad they changed them from being metal. Should be upto the parents to watch the kids.

On a side note, about 14 miles where I live now. There was a comany that made cast iron toys in the 1890 - 1952. Course over the years the companys name changed a couple times. But they still was making the cast iron toys. Just think about how unsafe some of those toys was. Below is just one sample of one kind of toy that was made by them.

plastic would be more dangerous in a way - it breaks easier, sometimes leaving sharp points. Hmm...

My older bro had a tonka crane, completely metal except for a few things (crank knob, window, and - of course - the string) - that thing was fun, I remember always begging him to play with it

That's why my generation (on average) is so much smarter than the younger generation...

We had toys that tended to weed out the less smart in-duh-viduals

How's a kid supposed to get any real work done in the back yard with a plastic toy truck?

Are parents supposed to watch their kids every minute they're playing? That's how you end up with messed up kids. Better to give the damn kid a toy truck he can bang his head with than give him a metal one and keep him playing in the kitchen under mommie's dress for the sake of parental responsibility.

Guess the answer would be remove all metal toys. But why remove them for the kids that knows how to play with toys the right way. The kids that dont know how to act around metal toys stops the rest for having fun.

Look at the old days in the cast iron toys. The parents might not have had that much money to buy the kids all the toys they wanted. So the kids learned to take care of the toys to make them last. Now these days I see kids with ton of toys laying around. Some parents tend to buy there kids alot of things.

When I was younger the two biggest toys I remember having was.. A Texas Instruments TI 99 / 4A computer and a train set which the train blown smoke about of it. Those was the biggest toys I remember I played with alot. Rest of my toys I had just layed around. Had the old TI computer till like year 1990 which then I sold it off. Since I newer computer then.

I had metal Tonka trucks..I think I turned out alright.
