YouTube's really going downhill. Now charging creators in a "Pay to Play" scheme, in order for their videos to be seen.

TLDW: Fran believes her videos are not being naturally suggested as they were before by YouTube, and now there is a "feature" to pay to be shown more to random viewers.

Additionally, her revenue from videos is decreasing (ad share) and ultimately it seems as though she will have to pay to stay on YouTube.

I don't really see an issue with this.. It's YouTube's platform... the fault is in relying on one form of achieving viewership. If she wants to grow more, maybe do more work to promote her stuff in other ways?

OP posting the video here is one way of doing that. I doubt the massive channels out there were strictly built off YouTube's algorithms.

Websites have the same problem when relying on Google searches... they have to react when the search algorithm changes. Sure, it's the #1 search site to be worried about, but any business will be in trouble when they choose to rely on a single source for traffic. It's the risk they take (knowingly or unknowingly).

I use different email addresses on my laptop and my phone. The videos suggested on the phone are beyond awesome and I can easily lose a few hours watching the recommended videos in my feed. The ones on my laptop are plain crap. Most AGT, BGT, X-factor etc. Like come on Youtube dumb algo, suggest something different once in a while. Just coz I watched a few talent show videos a few times, doesn't mean that's all I wanna see. The conspiracy theorist in me says that they care more about their Youtube app users.

If I wanted to watch user created videos about any topic, I don't even know where else I would go to other than YouTube. YouTube is basically the Google of user created videos.

Sounds too simple but I've never tried doing this.... pretty sure it can't hurt!

It definitely works. I have a couple accounts for YouTube, one for sort of the MTV experience, and one for general content. At this point, any time I'm uncertain of how a video will impact what the algorithm feeds me, I open it in a private window. The algorithm has gotten progressively worse over the last 5 years Occasionally I'll open one that seems like it will be okay, see the effect on my feed, and go back to delete it from my watch history. You can tidy up your search history too, since that's also a factor, and remove entries from it.

No question whatsoever about that!

There are literally videos on my primary feed that have been there for months and yet I've already watched them several times! (and sometimes even "disliked")

Also I like the idea of "dedicated/themed" YT profiles and am going to try it .... great suggestion thanks!

Don't forget to support on Patreon.
Yeah, and then that 'creator' goes out and build a million dollar state of the art house (not talking Linus here). But, don't forget to support me on Patreon if you like my videos.

Doesn't do a whole lot IME .... I've played with these settings extensively. (much like the "door-close" button on passenger elevators it's there to keep you busy)

I regularly see videos I've marked "not interested" and channels I've marked "don't recommend" show up on my feed. (and then stubbornly hang around!)

Wouldn't mind adding a similar "feature" to P&N though!

?? Seems to work well enough for me, though I don't often accidentally click on things I've no interest in.

The more widely varied content you watch, the less effective YT's crappy algorithm becomes. That's why I like the idea of "topic-dedicated" YT accounts with manipulated history.

Just for kicks open up Edge (or whatever browser you don't use for videos) and look at a "clean/not signed in" version of Youtube ... my bet is compared to your home-page it will be unrecognizable content-wise. Mine sure is!

Maybe part of it is that I'm subscribed to a lot of channels, so there is plenty of content for them to put up for me that I'm interested in.
