If I had a nickel for every time Youtube died....
It died when they took away home page customization back in 2011. You could truly make it your own. It was a lot of fun. Instead they made it TV and mobile device centric and the only thing you could customize was a thin strip which in itself was limited to 1/3 of the actual image.
It died when they took away wild card searches in 2011. You could find ALL newly uploaded videos w/o a topic just by searching for "*", now its not allowed. Plus results are filtered, its not raw like it used to be back in the good old days. Its watered down to the point of being just water, not the wild open west in its glory days.
It died when they starting filtering comments starting about 2015. You could say whatever you liked before then.
It died when that filtering turned to censoring if you said anything the algorithms would not allow you to say staring in 2019.
It died when you could comment on virtually any YT video at all, now you cannot on about 40% of them. Not sure when that started but it was probably around 2018.
It died when YT was forced to bow to anyone who claimed to own content over the billions of YT videos starting around 2012 when algorithms automatically placed copyright claims on your videos not based on actual use of a movie or song in your video, but when some element accidentally triggered it because it was similar to protected content.
And worst of all, It continues to die when video content itself is censored. Political ideas. Violent words or imagery, including descriptions or depictions of historical events such as WWII, human bodily functions for medical videos, anything that could be deemed "shocking" or "offensive" to anyone or anything. I love watching history videos and it extremely annoying to have to hear basic, non vulgar words censored because the algorithms automatically flag it for violations or demonetize it so the content creator cannot upload the damn thing or make money. Oh, and if you disagree with the left, your video pretty much cannot be uploaded because of political censorship.
An honorable mention death .... only people who upload videos for a living (professionals) have their content as suggested on the right hand side. A long time ago, ALL videos that were related where suggested. So an average nobody could become somebody...and quickly..by making good videos. Now you have to have thousands or millions of subscribers to be suggested.
And guess what, it will die again and again.
