Its 96% positive steam rating right now.

Don't get me wrong I've pre-ordered my version ,but can't play it until Friday(EU release date is 15th).

Just concerned about being able to actually play the game, hope I don't encounter those issues/bugs that are posted in the Steam thread,I'll find out Friday one way or the other.

Thoroughly enjoyed both 1 and 2, this should be most entertaining. This is an old ass style RPG circa 2001, they have brought back bits of the original Gothic and Risen and shoved them in. This isn't Dragon Age 2. Looks rather lengthy too.

Looks like my 2500k cpu is safe,

CON♥♥♥♥IGNFIRMED

This game cannot run when more than 4 cores are runnning. I had to rerun my cores just to play it You can do this too

Temporary Fix till they PATCH IT

> Go to Start
>Type MSCONFIG in run box
> Click on "Boot" tab button then "Advanced
> Click on the arrow that says "Number of processors" set the cores
Restart computer and game should work

How dare they make me shut down my 3960x cores
So issue seems to be 6 cores and above..

Ouch. :/

Something that devs will need to make sure they check in testing . . . they're not going to get very far if their game coughs up a lung on 6+ cores.

I thought Risen 1 was ok but I didn't like the small map. Risen 2 was awful.

How big is the map in this game?

Thoroughly enjoying it so far. Cheesy romantic (and clichéd) view of pirates from an East Europe perspective combined with hilarious dialogue (Where have you been? Doing fuck all, just dying). The graphics are horrific and are the beginning of last gen circa 2007 - models are rough and low res (though a side character has nice tits that are one polygon awayfrom splashing out all over the place), textures don't go there, and lighting is OK. My 780 Ti GHz hits 50FPS max oddly even with Vysnc disabled and its only 50% (barely) usage. 4770 non K seems to load up one core if that. The engine is basically built for Core 2 looks like.

Map size, you don't sail anywhere (not in the beginning anyway), you click on the boat and click on an island. Speaking of which, without the DLC extra bits, there are only three or four locations to click on and clear. Basically this game has *cult* written all over it and won't appeal to most. It has something rough AAA RPGs never do though.

Scanned a few reviews, and its ranging from 4.0/10 to 83/100. Seems like it may need a few patches to clean it up.

Amazes me how that got through QA,not like six or eight cores are rare.

Also ironic Steam community found those bugs and temporary fixes for the game within hour or so,maybe developers should use Steam community for beta testing for Risen 4.

Actually isn't it hte publisher that does QA and would have to decide on if there is a steam beta ?

According to the Steam Hardware Survey, they are rare. 48% of people have dual cores, and 43% have quads. The remainder is split between single cores(3.27%) and hex/octo skus(4.61%). One could probably say the people with hex core CPUs are more tech savvy, though they could just be cheap people who bought AMD FX 6xx0 parts.

Point is easy to buy six or eight core CPU,they must know some users use them,it still amazes me they did not even bother testing it on those, look how long AMD have had six and eight core CPUs?..We are talking many years.

Also found they have a soft cap on FPS of 50 as well, link and fix at Steam forums here http://steamcommunity.com/app/249230/discussions/0/35220315969868374/ those with high end video cards and 120Hz monitors will be happy about that.

Quick question since I never could bring myself to finish Risen 2.

When was it revealed Patty is your sister? I thought they were insinuating other things there.

I believe in Risen 3 you play a new main character ( not same one from 2) and patty is your sister in Risen 3.

Oh thank you, I didn't realize. I just figured the PC must have gotten his eye back in Risen 2. That makes a little more sense (though kind of awkward she deserts the old PC).

Oh I'm going to play it for sure, but as a rule I never play new games until a few patches have been released.

I had little bit of playing time in R3,no crashes or issues so far, game seems better then Risen 2 so far so looking good .

I've finished the first starter part of the island ,can't give spoilers away but the game feels like between Risen 2 and Risen 1 IMHO so they tried to have the best of both worlds on gameplay etc...

Graphics are dated but still better then previous Risen games(not much better however) and at least you can crank AF/AA settings up to max.

I'm happy with my purchase , now all I've to worry about is not getting any game bugs, only time will tell on that one.

Just played a bit of Risen 3, this is not my type of RPG. Its clunky, its boring, the fighting is poorly executed and nothing about the game feels real. Honestly its more linear than "open" and nothing really strings together well. I even tried to explore cliffs and ended up getting stuck in one and had to restart the game from quite a while back, decided to give up at that point lol. This type of RPG is definitely appealing to some, but not me, this is absolute trash.

Just curious- did you play either of the first 2?

I'm exploring the mage island now on Taranis, still no crashes or stuck situations for me and that's with my overclocked CPU and video card.

Anybody that has played Risen 1 or 2 will know what to expect from this game but it's a lot better then Risen 2 IMHO.
Game area itself is big because you have a quite a few different islands and lots of places to explore.

The game is more open then Risen 2.
I recommend seeing the Admiral after start so you can then get your quest log started on main story and also do some side quests there, after that up to you.

No restrictions on going back and forth between islands so that is good.
Voice acting is usual so so but then that's to be expected from a Risen game.

I'm enjoying it a lot more the Risen 2,in many ways it's like Risen 1.
Quests are on all the islands and trainers you have to find on all the various islands, took me awhile to find lock picking(safe cracking) trainer but found him.

Do remember the game also has autosave(on by default) so you may not have to reload way back depending on autosave time, has usual F5 quicksave and F9 quickload to.

I finished fog island which is one of DLC for pre-orders,you get quite a few hours on that island alone and some decent XP and quests.

I'll probably go back to the island to make sure not missed anything since it is a fairly decent size at some point.

Only had one freeze lockup so far in many hours of playing so the game is very stable in general.
Still not encountered any bugs yet on the quests.

I'm far from finished and have to say its probably the biggest Risen game so far in size and quests.

I'll keep you guys updated.

So how's the combat? Is it still Risen cluncky or did they actually improve it?

Faster combat in general, especially compared to Risen 1 ,right click on mouse to parry attacks, you use forward, back, right, left keys to dodge by tapping quickly.

Not a big improvement but not hard, problem is the mobs are fast at hitting you at low levels so you have to move around a bit ie dodge while fighting.

Once I become a mage guardian I'll just kill them from distance.

Combat comparison here http://steamcommunity.com/app/249230/discussions/0/35221031595968254/
