Society and this forum are not the govt and are thus incapable of infringing upon free speech (because counterspeech is someone else's free speech). Meanwhile, what you are proposing is that govt ban speech when it doesn't suit you, the person listening to the statement. Which is very anti-free speech. That you choose to give exercises of free speech that you disagree with negative labels, such as 'hate speech,' 'protests,' or even 'riots,' is just your way of justifying wanting to outlaw speech you've decided is not okay. We might not want to demonize the entire group, but at the same time... modern American conservatism is a serious problem, and we can't pretend otherwise.

They have a former President, key leadership and a large number of supporters who either falsely believe the election was rigged, back the Capitol invasion or are willing to tolerate either of those.

The GOP openly seeks to rig elections of its own, to the point where it effectively wants a dictatorship (that is, it's virtually impossible for the other party to win). David Frum's comment "they won't abandon conservatism, they'll abandon democracy" seems all too prophetic at the moment.

It's anti-science; not only does it frequently reject vaccines, masks, the need to curb climate change and other well-established scientific pursuits, it sometimes crafts legislation to thwart those pursuits solely out of spite.

As a song put it... not every Trump voter is racist, but every racist who voted probably voted for Trump. Even if you think the Democrats aren't really the solution to racism, they remain dramatically better than a Republican party that is still seen as a haven for bigotry and xenophobic scapegoating.

And of course, it's the party that not-so-subtly encourages violence against its ideological opponents, whether it's Rittenhouse killing people at BLM protests or Trump suggesting fans should rough up journalists.
