He doesn’t need to be up on the tech, but he should be up on the rules of evidence. I’d be highly surprised that this is the first time it’s come up. It’s likely that the rules of evidence require images to be presented as they were provided to defense in discovery, and any enhancement/manipulation for lighting/contrast/magnification that was to be presented would have to be disclosed ahead of time for the defense to review (possibly by their expert) for any changes from the as taken images. As this zooming was being done on the fly, effectively the prosecution was introducing evidence the defense didn’t have time to review, and that’s a no no.

From a “common sense” view it seems like that something that simple shouldn’t be an issue, but if we used common sense in court, we’d put a lot of lawyers out of work. And we can’t have that.

Actually if you watched the trial, the judge has little to no knowledge concerning modern tech. He had a magnifying glass at the bench.

Rittenhouse is guilty, the only question is if culture war idiots succeed in making him the victim and get him off. Justice is flexible, a malleable notion for conservatives, and I think it's pretty funny for one of them to come in here and claim propaganda and conspiracy. You have an extremely strong pro-police, pro-Blue Lives Matter bias, so why do you think anyone should believe your point of view? You're far from a bastion of objectivity.

Even if events transpired exactly as Rittenhouse and his attorneys claim, the trial itself is a sham. The judge is conspicuously biased in favor of the defendant, and technically ignorant (he believed a lie that pinch-to-zoom amounts to doctoring an image). Rittenhouse was obviously crying crocodile tears, and he knows he's not a completely innocent party. The judge has already determined his verdict... but I also suspect his decision might get thrown out.

There’s no doubt in my mind that Rittenhouse is a dumbfuck, and that he shot 3 people who didn’t deserve to be shot. I’d go as far to say he’s guilty of manslaughter in my mind.

But, being a dumbfuck isn’t a crime, especially more so when you’re 17. I think the defense is doing a better job of making their case than the prosecution, judge’s rules notwithstanding. There’s a good chance the only thing that sticks is the underage possession charge. If that’s the case, I wouldn’t say it’s a grave miscarriage of Justice. The victims will have their day with civil cases as well.
