So would you please stop trying to make me out to look like the bad guy for doing just that?

Oh, and seriously, do you own Nvidia stock?

I apologize for misunderstanding your intent.

No nVidia stock or employment for me, just like video cards a lot. I'm excited about this generation of nVidia because it's far more interesting to me as a whole new core design.

Also, the only thing going on this exciting with ATI these days is modding X800 Pro VIVOs into XTs, and they're $500 to start with.

lol, wuts UP with ATi's pricing? You'd think by now they'd lower the x800pro to 300 or maybe add an x800SE with 12 pipes and 128 megs of ram. i bet u they will lose some sales now that word of the unlocking pipes has gotten out.

Update: At RivaTuner forums, It seems 55.5% could unlock all both the quad unit and vertex proc, 7.5% could unlock only the quad unit, and 28.5% could unlock just the quad unit. Thats a total of ~90%. So now if you buy a 6800, you seem to have a 90% chance of SOMETHING unlocking sucessfully. These are great figures, unlike some radeon mods that were near 25% sucess rates. CONTINUE MODDING!!!

Edit, spelled radeon wrong.

I've been able to unlock 16 and 6, but now I can't overclock at all. EVGA 6800nu, used to be able to achieve 375 x 885. Now, even the slightest increase in either one will be rejected. ANyone have thoughts on this? Your help would be appreciated!

BTW what are you, king of prude, doing talking about modding? you know it voids warranty

Well, I know that unlocking pipes causes your GPU to do more work, and thusly it runs a bit warmer. I'm not sure if that's the only reason why you can't budge from stock speeds now, though.

Anyway, Snowman...you've been following this thread quite closely from what I've seen. Please don't act like I'm trying to say a modded and overclocked NU = a stock GT. You know what I've been saying this entire time: for most users, a modded and overclocked NU will be so similar in performance to a GT that it is negligible. I'm not sure why you keep telling me about the lack of bandwidth. I've already admitted, and surely you must see, that I understand that the NU will never catch up in memory bandwidth. I fully understand the situation. I'm just merely trying to say that, for $250, you can probably get a card that performs about the same as one that is $100 more expensive in most situations. That's all. There's no more need to reply to me, because I'm not arguing with you, I'm saying the same thing you are.

Softmodding voids your warranty, right?

<edit> Sorry - didn't see Zebo's post above mine asking the same question</edi>

Not sure about softmodding. Maybe someone that knows more than I will be able to answer that for sure.

Maybe the reason the quad was masked is it failed nVidia's OCing tests?

Tough call, but the increases I saw in performance far outweighed the ones I got OCing. (although I didn't get as high as you)

Zebo- this was too tempting to resist, so I opted to give it a shot. If my card bites the dust, I'll eat the loss.

its funny, i can overclock beter now that i unlocked the pipes and the proc. It may be that i recently installed the 66.81 drivers or that winter has come around here and the gpu is constantly at 53 degrees. im runnin 385/770. It could also be that u need more voltage. Up the voltage a .1 volt or two in the bios. It takes much more voltage to power the extra pipes. the NU takes 1.2 volts and GT takes 1.3, so its feasable.

In riva tuner my card list 3 voltages 1.0, 1.2, and 1.4. In the graph it always says it is running at 1.0. So, what is the voltage? Also my soft mod will not stay. How can I get it to stay? The check boxes to open up the pipes and vertex unit are checked and under nvstrap it says 16x1, 6vp, but at the home screen of rivatuner it says 12x1, 5vp when it comes out of hibernation, and I have to click on reinstall nvstrap and reboot.

Can someone point me to the docs for this build of rivatuner that say how to unlock the extra pipes? the faq on the site that rivatuner is hosted on was for an older version that had different options on it.

I think i got it correctly, but would like to know for sure. My unlocked speed is as fast as my overclocked nu speeds

k, this has taken all the fun outta me, here my problem:
When i enabled 16 pipes and 6 vertex shaders on my card, all i did to test for texture curruption is take snap shots of Wings of Fury and Mother Nature and take a good look at them. They were ok. Played doom 3 at hiQ, the game that used transistors on ur vid core that were "never used before" looked fine. Farcry, flawless. So for the past couple days i thought i was one of the lucky ones. I fired up UT2004....there are static-y lines on the floor and some other places on the map, barely noticeable but noticeable nonetheless. I went to a 12x1 6x1 config, no static lines on the ground, tested 16x1 6x1, static is back. I ran it at stock speeds, still its static lines on 16x1....EVERY other 3d app is flawless, except UT2004. Im asking that everyone check UT2004 and if it runs ok with 16x1.....why is it that its the only game that gives me graphical errors? Farcry and doom3...i dont even play UT2004 regularly....if 16x1 doesnt mess up any other game, i dont care, im leaving it. But im curious as to why Doom3 shows no such errors.

Such things just happen. My gt runs Doom3 fine at 410/1130, but the for the MoHA demo I had to back the core down to 390 and in Halo my memory will act up above 1090. Different apps stress diferent parts of the card that may or may not hold out.

Interesting thread. I've read elsewhere that OCing voids a warranty but this RT softmod does not.

I am curious for those faint of heart like me, what would be the safer, more stable performance increaser? OCing or Softmod...

Or you could try both and just monitor your temps. I've managed to do both (after using that disableclktest or watever function.) So far it works like a champ, haven't had to increase voltages alter cooling. Just got a 11753 yesterday in 3Dmark03, pointless but impressive nonetheless

Follow up question, can you do more with 3dmark '03 like is the full version free now? Cause I know the new '05 is not fully functional unless you upgrade...

Also, just what do artifacts look like? Just abnormalities in general, I'll know it if I see it?

It really isn't all that hard. Check the box that says Enable Hardware Mask, put the dropdown box to Custom, hit Customize. Check the boxes that aren't checked that say "Hardware Masked" to the very right. Hit ok, restart your computer.

in Rivatuner, under "Target Adapter" click Customize -> Low-level settings -> NVStrap Driver bar -> check the "allow enabling hardware masked units" -> change the Graphics processor configuration to "custom" and then click Customize. you should see a table with all the pixel and vertex units, both enabled and masked (it's easy to spot them, they have HW Masked "yes") then, to activate the masked ones, just put a "check" to the left in the line of the masked one(s). apply, then reboot. to test if it was successful and the extra pipelines/vertex processors are fine,

(Unlike the Asus, it actually costs less than a GT.)

Even appears to come with the stock GT cooler instead of the dinky NU cooler. Not a bad find at all. I wonder if the memory on that could OC a good deal better?

That's more like a stock Ultra cooler-I have a reference 6800NU, and a XFX 6800GT, they basically have the same HSF.

This thing has a two slot like an Ultra. Interesting card, well worth $329 IMO.
