A NEW VERSION OF RivaTuner (2.05) has just arrived, and if you want to explore advanced features of GeForce or Radeon series of cards, this is a must have download.

New version is now finally usable with R600 GPUs, since Unwinder fixed I2C write routine that was blasted by many users out there. 2.05 now has databases for ForceWare 163.69 and 163.71 versions of drivers, so if you like to be on a bleeding edge of driver revisions, you can freely use Rivatuner tuning app.

But what most followers of this application expected is now a reality - new UI brings independent slider for adjusting shader domain clock. Now you can finally overclock the shader units inside GeForce 8 GPUs regardless of GPU or memory clock.

If your GPU was locked at a certain level - let's say 8800GTX stuck at 630 MHz for the GPU, that almost certainly meant that the clocks of shader units would be stuck at 1.46-1.58 GHz, and now you can change this value, and clock as high as shader units would allow.

Also, if you're into SLI overclocking, you might appreciate a new mode for Vista.

Sadly, I do remember what 3dfx used to do for enthusiasts. Nvidia and Daamit could go into the back benches and learn something. µ

i'm currently using 2.05

right now my GTX is bumped up a bit
set at 600 core, 1406 shader, and 925 memory

is there an automated test to see what i can push my card to?
I really liked the auto-clock utility that ATI had for my older 1800XTX's

Just use Atitool's artifact tester. Yes it works for Nvidia cards too. Bump up one at a time and test for a few minutes. Try to hit max core speed then set to default, then shader clock, then memory clock independently. Then try all 3 at their max together. If not stable, lower each one a notch and find where it is max stable. Atitool does all the testing for you.

Use Rivatuner's hardware monitor so you will know when the speeds of all 3 clocks jump to the next level. They do not adjust 1:1 what you set in the OC menu. They jump at predefined points. The shader clock jumps about 50mhz, core about 25mhz and memory about 20mhz. You can't set anything in between. This will actually speed up testing time though as you need to test fewer clock frequencies.

How the hell do you access the shader overclock bar? I've tried everything. I went into power user mode and changed the value to "1" by shader clock...nada.

I went to the forums and they don't explain it either. They just assume everyone can hack Rivatuner to make the slider appear...

Help a noob out please!

Also, any suggestions for how high \you can OC the shader on an 8800GTS?

My GTS 640MB OC settings are 612Mhz Core / 1417Mhz Shader / 918Mhz Memory, 100% stable, running like that 15'ish hours per day without any problems (I just set default clocks back before going to bed, but that's it). Unfortunately I can't OC any higher without increasing my already present CPU bottleneck. When I get a better CPU I'll try to OC my GTS further.

Why use programs when you can modify bios and flash it? I have my 8600gts SP clock 1566mhz flashed in.

Funnily enough, not everybody likes taking the unnecessary risk of flashing their gfx BIOS and invalidating their warranty. Not all of us have a spare PCI gfx card hanging around to do a recovery.

Thanks for the heads up OP.

If you have Vista, it's enabled by default.

If you have XP, read Unwinder's 2.05 thread on Guru3d like you ought to when you don't know how to work someone's program..

Does anyone know how to make this program stop nagging me at startup under Vista? I don't want to disable the security features to do it, either.

lol UAC? First thing I did after I installed Vista was disable UAC....

Only other nagging I got was a little RT pop-up that went away after I clicked the check-box saying "don't show this again".

Anyways, RT 2.05 is certainly a must-have for those who wish to OC back to pre-163 levels. You could get previous OCs back with 2.04 but they required you to go into power-user settings and change Shader Clock ratios.

You need to be running a newer driver such as 163.71 to use the independent shader clocking feature under either OS.
