watched the 2nd lost reel episode on the way home from work today in india, catching the Coonch Catfish (if spelling right...)

was really neat to see him fishing in those remote locations. i mean it looks like he is in places where there aren't people around for miles on end. that is just a really neat thing to consider when watching him sometimes.

also about the show being condensed. it really is only 42 minutes w/out commercials. i don't think it is too long at all. however i've never seen it airing with commercials so watching it may feel extremely long with commercials. i usually actually really enjoy the parts he isn't fishing and is explaining the tales and talking to the locals gathering information.

i always wondered how many languages he knows. he seems to at least be able to get around in a lot of different areas with minimal languages. granted, it can also be a lot of editing with a translator, but i definitely noticed him speaking fluent portugese more than once.

It's one of the few shows on Discovery that strikes a good balance between entertaining and educating, without much unnecessary drama.

Yes, this is the latest episode. They sure didn't fake or sensationalize that, after a few minutes of tv time, they were back to work. They did lose 12+ hours of time while he was recuperating.

But that is how fishing is really. You don't just cast your line with a worm and a bobber in and get a bite right away, and over and over. He also fills in with some good info on the area and people.

Also, he is doing some of the most difficult fishing there is.

Besides, the Outdoor channels have plenty of shows with wall to wall fishing action, I catch that time to time.

Marveling at these river monsters, some of which are almost too gnarly and massive to believe, it makes me wonder what *could* have been lurking in our own rivers and lakes before we polluted and over-fished so many of them. Lots of unconfirmed tales by Native Americans or early settlers in many regions describing fish and other creatures (both water and land) that haven't been seen in 200 years.

Just think is what is waiting to be discovered in the deep oceans. We have mapped something like 1%, and explored 5% tops. And any deep dive always turns up new species. I have always advocated more ocean research, something like NASA, but smaller that would launch missions.

Enjoy that show very much. Jeremy does not try to make himself the star of the show, rather he focuses on the local folks or the critter in question.
No way in heck would I be allowing those eels to grab hold of my hand, kevlar glove or no.

just FYI ... season 4 started this past sunday with a 2 hour premiere on monsters in the USA.

i'm 1/2 done with it and will be watching the 2nd half on the way home from work.

this show owns, would love to have this guys job.

i'm also really liking the little text blips that they show at the bottom of the screen throughout the episode. there is some really cool information in them.

I always catch this show, some of the fish are just unreal. Anyone see the one where the plane they were in crashed into a swamp in some remote area, and they the cameras as they walked an hour or two on their way out? D:
