RMA'd my Nexus 6P and Google is giving me a Pixel XL

I've been having trouble with my Nexus 6P for a while now. First phone's battery would die at 20% after about a year of owning it - RMA'd it. Google sent me a refurbished 6P which ran great for a few months until again the phone would die around 20% battery. Google again sent another phone - same issue.

Now I went to RMA the phone again (the phone is not covered under warranty anymore btw) and Google is sending me a brand new Pixel XL. Not bad!

I bought the phone directly from Google if anyone is wondering. (Project Fi)

I bought my 6P in Dec. 2015 from Amazon. I chatted with Amazon for 2-3 mins, and without hesitation, they gave me a full refund on the 6P (after I sent it back). I will never buy a Huawei phone ever again

Why?
What was the problem with the phone?

The same battery issue as yours. I should've also mentioned this was 1.5 years into owning the phone (so out of warranty). You can see posts on the 6P subreddit where people have done returns on Amazon, Google, or even got money back from their credit card company.

Hope you have better luck with the Pixel.

So....... you used the phone for 1.5 years, and got 100% refund... Am I missing something? Try that with samsung.... After 1 year, toss that in the trash, good luck getting anything from samsung after the warranty expires.

Where do I sign up if I don't like something after the warranty I can just recoup a full refund? Unless your threatening with a class action lawsuit, kinda unheard of.

Just to be clear, I bought the phone from Amazon, and they gave me the money back (not Huawei). People in the US have had bad luck dealing with Huawei support and trying to get devices RMA'd. The people that were successful in getting an RMA got their 6P downgraded with Android 6/M when Huawei was pointing the fingers at Google.

The 6P is notorious for battery issues, and there is a class action investigation on 6P battery/bootlooping issues.

Can't speak to the 6P but the 5X was a major disappointment. I am not even a heavy phone user and the phone was constantly slowing down and crashing, and I had the notorious bootloop. I've never had so many problems with a phone before.

So far so good. Flashed the latest version of Oreo along with ElementalX Kernel. Phones been off the charger for 33 hours with 3.5 SoT & 54% battery.

Did you have to pay for the replacement? I just replaced my Nexus 6p but went through the accident warranty. RMA cost me $80 even though the insurance was $99 which was annoying.

I think most Nexus 6Ps have the "shutting down at 20%" problem these days. And I have a feeling that it has something to do with the Nougat/Oreo. After a good 2 years, my 6P has been giving me some serious battery issues. Rooted with a custom ROM and still have the same issues. The only option seems to be to buy a new one now.

The problem with the 6P is from the desing of Google using the Snapdragon 810.

Just read an article about this. The 6pim typing on now has been already returned for the battery issues. It's ok in that extent and never given me any other issues.

But my gps is totally screwed. I can't navigate anywhere with it and I've tried wiping it, loading the latest update via fastboot, etc. It always looses gps when I most need it.

I'm giving this phone to my brother once the pixel 2 is announced and I'll wipe it completely so it should be fine by that time for him. But I was thinking of trying to get a pixel replacement and just give him that.

Hell if I can't order a pixel 2 this year I guess I could always try the iPhone 10, but it's been ages since I had an iPhone.

I called them 3 days ago as my 6P now dies at 30% and they won't do anything. They transferred me to Huawei which wants $200 to supposedly "fix" this garbage. I was going to upgrade to the Pixel 2 but I don't know anymore after this BS. I might just wait for the S8 to go on BOGO as it generally does at the end of the year.

I filed a claim with AMEX as they offer 1 year extra warranty so I'll see what they say.

Are you out of warranty? They were replacing 6p's with pixels(even out of warranty) up until the 16th but because word got out and there was a thread on Reddit as well as other articles on tech sites, that people who did rma's were receiving pixel replacements. So now if you are out of warranty they just direct you to Huwei support. I guarantee some people who had zero issues called in and got an RMA just so they can swap for a pixel.

Yeah I preordered the phone when it was announced so I got it on launch day. What pisses me off is google knew there was a defect with the phone but they chose to not be proactive about it. It's cool because AMEX is refunding me so I will just get an S8 for me and my wife. Done with Nexus/Pixel phones.

Yeah, I guarantee the reason why they aren't doing it now is because everyone and their mother started RMAing their Nexus 6P's, fine or not. I only had my 6P for a year (upgraded to the Pixel XL when it released), but I thoroughly enjoyed the phone, even if I still feel that phone and my XL are both a bit too large for my preference.

2 months ago, my Nexus 5X randomly died (shut off with 50% battery, then wouldn't restart and had a red blinking light) nearly 8 months out of warranty. Since I bought it from Google, they let me RMA it and sent me a refurbished one. Not bad, considering it was out of warranty.

Well I submitted all the info to amex so looks like I'll be getting my money back. Costco has BOGO galaxy s8 right now so think I'm just gonna get 2x S8+.

I also upgraded from the 6P to S8+, and I'm happy. Touchwiz is really out of the way (especially with Action launcher), and the battery can easily last me 1.5 to 2 days (w/ the same usage as the 6P, I'd barely get a full day). The only thing I don't like about the S8+ is the camera. The 6P's camera produces better pictures than the S8+.

That really cant be? The 6p camera takes better pics than the S8+?? Usually Samsung's always have nice cameras.

My sister's s7 takes better pics than my 6p.

From the similar pics I have taken, I like the results the 6P produces. Also when it comes to low light environments, the 6P blows away the S8+

That's weird because the pixel improved on low light pics. Most people I know who have a 6p say the camera is decent but not that good. I hope they improved it even more in the pixel 2.

Heck, even the Leeco Le Max 2 with Lineage OS takes better photos than the Nexus 6p... Sadly is one of the worst of the bunch :/
