I was disappointed in the lack of actual solution talk. Saying Washington is liberal or that Obama is this or that is not telling me the voter how the GOP is planning to fix all the problems we have. What do you think?

And how many solutions were presented in last weeks affair?

1. Simplification of Tax Code
2. Ending Tax Breaks for Big Oil
3. Trimming the Budget
4. Investing in energy resources like natural gas
5. Cutting Taxes for me and a lot of other Americans
6. Putting more troops in Afghanistan
7. Actually capturing/killing Osama Bin Laden

I can't name that many points that the GOP mentioned, can you?

Wow, what an impressive list. All things that either the current administration is doing or that the rnc nominee has already put out as campaign points. Nice to see you jump onboard.

But what specific points were addressed at the RNC? I am not talking about Campaign points, I am talking about substantive points mentioned during the RNC. What were they? Nice of you to dodge the question.

You mean like besides most of those items you already listed that the BHO cmapign has been trying to clamp onto when the mccain campaign took the lead in those areas.

Ok, this is the last time I respond to you.

What are the points made by the RNC so far that address our nation's needs. You keep dodging the damn question, and I think its making you look pretty stupid.
There's nothing pretty about it.

I'm very much a give-the-benefit-of-the-doubt kind of guy, so I try to listen to the arguments people make even when they're made in over-the-top or patronizing ways. Sometimes it's good to distinguish between the rhetorical devices and the underlying substance. Even people who use manipulative language sometimes have an important point beneath their persuasion techniques (ads against smoking, for example).

I usually don't feel uneasy when I put those filters on, but last night - during the Guiliani speech - I realized I was no longer filtering a speechwriter's intentional manipulation; I was trying to look beyond real hate. These folks were gritting their teeth, shaking their fists, and smiling the way gladiators do when going into combat against barbarians. And this is the incumbent party. The ones currently in power.

What is it they hate? Guiliani and Palin both made it pretty clear: community organizing. Community organizing is energized from below. From the periphery. It is the direction and facilitation of mass energy towards productive and cooperative ends. It is about replacing conflict with collaboration. It is the opposite of war; it is peace.

Last night, the Republican Convention made it clear they prefer war. They see the world as a dangerous and terrible place. Like the fascist leaders satirized in Starship Troopers, they say they believe it is better to be on the offensive, taking the war to the people who might wish us harm than playing defense. It is better to be an international aggressor - a bulldog with lipstick - than led by the misguided notion that attacking people itself makes the world a more dangerous place."

very well said.

Who is this idiot from Carolina talking about Obama not admitting the surge worked? He just did it a few minutes ago on O'reilly. He is basing his whole speech on this LOL

I love the Cindy Lou Henson puff piece they're running now; the charming story of how she met a charming Navy Captain, and they started their relationship by immediately lying to each other, fell deeply in love and got married. No mention, of course, of the wife he had at the time..

Lupi just trolls, GTkeeper- negative one-liners. A sort of echo of what you noticed with the RNC...

My fave part of the whole song and dance is that it's the same basic pitch as Reagan or Bush- it's not about actual issues or solutions, it's perception management and emotional appeal. They're arguing for *change*, and they're the incumbents- and actually selling it to the faithful, as if the Bush Admin were some sort of mistake, an aberration- as if they weren't all for it until they were against it... well, kinda, w/o actually saying so...

If they were really in favor of "smaller govt", why didn't they deliver when they held the legislative and executive branches? Why did they instead deliver the largest increase in the size of govt since the Great Society, and the largest debt increases in history? Does owing a few $T more make us stronger somehow, or what?

But, But, But the Democrats have held a majority in Congress for 20 whole months and haven't fixed all the problems the country has!!! Throw the liberal bums out and let the Republicans take us all back to Reagan's America!!!

I agree completely, the whole theme of this convention has been sickening. All I've heard is negative words coming out of every speech giver. I lost a ton of respect for Guiliani yesterday, he basically mocked all community organizers which was a very low blow. If you want to go after Obama on experience, fine. But to energize the crowd by making these jokes just isn't right. The whole message of "our way or the highway" is also pretty disturbing. These people really do not come across as willing to work with anyone but their own, which somehow makes this country better. But then again I'm an independent so I guess I don't love my country.

Oh please, if the dems weren't idiots with a fractured party they would have done the same thing.

Probably a good idea to show his 96 year old mother, to quell fears that he'll become disabled/die in office and leave Palin in charge.

Still, I'm pretty sure we could make a drinking game tonight for each time he'll use his POWer.

the introduction film had you at 3 shots, and the Fred Thompson soundbite added one more. I pity you drinkers tonight.
