His mom looks 72 and he looks 96.Originally posted by: CallMeJoe

Given hi s past speeches I don't think that comes across as a shock to anyone. No offense but the man is 72 years old. What do you expect? My father is 68 and he can't understand how someone 4 years older than him could endure the demands of that position. I must say I was shocked to see his 96(?) year old mother looking great for her age.Originally posted by: jpeyton
Alex Castellanos, one of the biggest GOP blowhards on TV, just said on CNN that McCain proved he's not a great orator. Speech ran long.
His mom looks great for 96, but neither his father nor grandfather made it to 72.

Better than I expected. His writers were on their game (for the most part), and his delivery was much more natural than usual. If he could just stop repeating "My friends..."
Are you serious? I don't think he's improved at all. He's robotic and very obvious about reading the teleprompter. I don't know if it's his vision but it seems like it takes him a second to focus on the teleprompter to start speaking. And he's still delivering some lines followed by the creepy smiles now and then. In short, he looks uncomfortable.
I just calls it like I sees it.
He's not a great orator, I wasn't expecting Cicero reincarnate. Considering how stiff he can be, I think he exceeded expectations.
FWIW, he developed some cadence despite the interruptions (which Palin couldn't) and kept the creepy smile in check. Mostly.
Maybe he benefits from the "soft bigotry" of my "low expectations".

How can the repubs claim any diversity in their party when All you see is a sea of old white people?
There was a black woman there .... right before security escorted her out.
We were playing a drinking game the other night where every time the camera panned someone had to drink until we saw a minority in the audience. We eventually just gave up.

Regarding the interruptions... I wish the camera didn't give them attention. IMO the vets holding up signs in the corner were fine because they didn't appear to be creating a disturbance. The woman in pink was a tool and just makes her cause look bad. It's not Jerry Springer so don't act like it.

"change is coming"?
do they, um, remember that the Republicans already have the White House and have driven this country into the ground?
I love how their new idea is that in order to vote for change you can vote in the same people that have been running things for close to the last decade.
Bad move McCain. If people want change, they are going to vote for Obama, not you. If people want a president who is good at crashing airplanes into power lines they will vote for you.
Come on eskimo... You're better than that.
Awww it was a joke. I'm not even sure how good he is at that anyway, he only did it once... could have been a fluke.

Who cares about the party he will have to work with congress. I can see great things with McCain president and a democratic congress. Lots of reaching accross the isle unlike the last 8 years.

I especially like how McCain talks up service to your community and serving a greater cause yet puts down Obama's work as a community organizer in the south side of Chicago.

If McCain was running as Democrat rather than pretending to agree with that ownership society BS, I'd vote for him.

I don't think anyone "put down" working in the community... Palin's comments were a defensive response to the Obama camp's assertion that being a city council member / mayor / governor is somehow contemptible compared to being a community organizer.

McCain would be the one in charge the rest of the GoP would take a back seat. It would be McCain reaching across the isle it would be McCain building a concensus with both sides on board. I would not be suprised to see McCain toss his party over board if he won. I don't think he likes his party right now and would like to rebuild them into what they were.

I'm sure it was a joke but it was still in poor taste. I don't agree with much of what he stands for in 2008 but the man served this country honorably and he doesn't deserve that.

Like he has tossed his party overboard during this campaign? Who are you kidding? This guy has changed a lot in 8 years and it shows. For you to not see that isn't shocking.

I wish you were right but IMO not a chance. He just picked a VP who is solidly in line with the base of the current GOP.
