have you been on a road trip?
DEF: a trip to disneyland with your family is NOT a road trip...at least not in my book...a road trip is going somewhere far away and driving there manily for the driving experience (stopping at cool places on the way, stupid things that happen in a car, etc.)

if so, what was the purpose of your road trip? to go hiking/skiing in some far off place, just to go somewhere, to get away, etc.

how far did you travel?
got any cool road trippin' stories?
what are some good road tripping tips for: saving money, handling the trip, time management, cool places to stop, good sites for road tripping

thanks

i live in socal.
one night decided to head to vegas for some pizza and came home.

once drove up to yosemite. too tired to find a place so we pulled over, passed out, drove around a bit the next morning and went home.

don't plan a lot. forget the hardcoded time management. know how much time you have total, figure in 1/3 of the time to get there, 1/3 of the time to get back, 1/3 for things unforeseen.

hmmm sounds good...
basically my plan is to stick to a route...somewhat...and the trip should take no more than about 30 days...start to finish...

Ive driven from Virginia to California and back several times

My longest drive without sleep was 1400 miles straight and I was alone, I wont do that again. It was from Texas to Virginia only stopping for food/gas and bathroom

One of my best trips was driving from Virginia, to Chicago to pick up my friends from England, then we went to Colorado, Utah, San Francisco and Carmel, was fun.

just a little caffeine, but caffeine doesnt really help me stay up at all. I did stop at a rest stop for like 15 mins and might have fallen asleep for a few minutes, but I just wanted to get home to Virginia without staying another nite in a hotel. 1400 miles is way to long to drive straight if your the only driver though.

Travel is important, it's an education. I've hitchiked, bussed, trained, and flew one quarter of the planet. I've hitchiked from California to Alaska several times and from Alaska to the East Coast. I've met a lot of good people. Good experiences.

In terms of driving, one summer I drove 13,000 plus miles in 70 days. It was awesome. Seattle-->Carhenge in Nebraska-->Mt. Rushmore-->Des Moines, IA-->Buffalo, NY--> Toronto, -->Quebec and the Gaspe Penninsula-->Newfoundland-->Maine-->New York City-->Washington D.C.--->Seattle.

I should mention I've driven a motorcycle from Vancouver, British Columbia to San Francisco in a day without a windshield. When I hit The City, I just kinda slid off the bike. My body was beat.

Purpose of all the travel is enjoyment and enlightenment.

It's not hard. I drove from New Orleans to north of NYC in one sitting. No biggie.
