RoadRunner/Linksys IP address turnover hangs

Am using RR with a lynksys 4port switch router using the default DHCP, and am very happy with the setup. I noticed that approximately once a week the IP address assigned by road runner turns over to a new one. whenever that happens I'm unable to access the internet until I go to the linksys setup screen and press the "apply" button. Shouldn't this happen automatically? It would only be a problem if I set up a server and was using one of these services such as TZO.com where I would be sending any changes of my assigned IP address automatically to the TZO server. If anyone knows any router settings that would enable it to reconfigure itself to the new WAN address automatically I would appreciate it. Incidentally, I just upgraded the firmware to 1.3 beta from the original march 2000 firmware that came with the box (I think it was 1.21) and I haven't had a chance to see if the new firmware will fix the problem.

I don't really know the answer to this problem specifically, but it sounds like this may be the only way to go about fixing your problem. You see, the way your router obtains an ip address is through DHCP... Because of this when the ip address changes on the DHCP server's side, obviously the IP address your computer obtained becomes invalid and your router must release that old IP address and the information must be renewed. When you press apply, you are releasing and renewing your ip address. Firmware cannot fix a problem like this because the problem is your lease is running out with your ISP.

That makes sense. I'll try to get a better idea of the times they reset the IP address and be ready then. If they reset at 6 day intervals, as they seem to be doing, and very early in the morning, it shouldn't be much of a problem. thanks for your help
