So if you're thinking about buying one you have to get it checked out by a mechanic and Terminix?

I agree that the feeling isn't the same. Traction control, ABS, electronic throttle, the styling, all the safety equipment/weight, etc... But the spirit of a small cheap two door roadster is still the same. The results may not be the same in the end.
If Mazda can pull off what they want out of the new Miata - 2200lb and a new SkyActiv engine with 40+ mpg - I don't see how I could recommend anything else.
In my eyes the only thing a Miata is good for is a parts car for a Locost7 ( punjab runs to google to figure out what that is ), don't get me wrong, they are fine cars, just not what some will settle for.
The Miata has no soul, some of us want cars with character AND soul, especially if it's not your only car.
I wouldn't trade any of my cars for a Miata, even the non running 41 Ford hulk That's been sitting in the shop for the last 10 years.

If you don't get it it's OK, not everybody want's a throw away appliance like a Miata, that want something with soul, if you don't understand what a car is that has soul, we can't help ya.
Ok if you want to get into a pissing match over the difference between spirit and soul go for it, I frankly couldn't care less.
I didn't say it was the same. OP asked for a car with the same spirit as small British roadsters. When everyone answers Miata, I think there's a reason.
I understand the difference and all the "soul" and "passion" and "heart" cliches, but clearly you know more than me especially since I have to google what a Locost because you know who I am so well. You even know me well enough to think I care about your non running Hulk.
OP, you have plenty to look for - my personal favorite is a TR6
-I even came upon that decision without having to google what a Triumph is
Did I mention circa 1970's? I like that classic two seater roadster look. Oh, and no miata.
Don't have the money for a 356, so that's out of the window. Even a rep kit is out of budget for a toy car.
Lucas takes offense at that
I was going to say the same thing, haha, or Porsche Boxster S.1970's Honda S2000
miata
my exact thought. So you can actually enjoy driving it and not just looking at it.
that's what I was thinking. Look out, Pinepig will try to ebully you because you don't get passion and soul and spirit. Trololol.
Those of you that are knocking British reliability, have you ever owned one? I'm not saying they are the most reliable car, but there are simple things to do to make them reasonably reliable. I used my MGB as a daily driver, 50 miles for 2 years. The only time it left me stranded was when the throttle cable broke. I honestly think I do just as much maintenance and tinkering on my 85 300D. These are just old cars.

do those even exist ? i thought s2000 came out in the last decade or so.
Maybe he was thinking of the Toyota 2000GT?
