Phillips head are very useful for drywall hanging. The main purpose of the phillips head is for the bit to "cam out" when the proper torque is reached. If your drywall screw gun does not have a electronic brake and you use a bit & screw with more grip like robertson or torx, you'll overdrive and break the paper.
For just about any other fastening though. Square/torx drive is better than phillips.
