I personally prefer humor to be subtle. More along the lines of Woody Allen - back when his creative well had not dried up. I sometimes found Williams funny but in general, a bit too over the top, in your face. To me, artistically, Philip Seymour Hoffman was the bigger loss.

I was disappointed to learn that when all that money he was making off his movies I thought was going to his acting guild but in reality just ended up going to his drug habit.

I thought this was an interesting point of view. While I try to understand what other people go through that lead them to off themselves, I do tend to look down on suicide. How could anyone do such a thing that had any family and/or significant other that would be affected? It does seem to be the ultimate selfish act.

By most reports he was in financial ruin. What if he had a multi-million insurance policy on himself and the suicide clause had expired and his daughter inherited all of that instead of his ex-wife's.

Is he still selfish?

His daughter is 25. Not 2. The guy was nearly 65 and had a lot of miles on that body. He have easily had a heart attack this year and been dead anyway.

It's odd that Rollins chose that as a soapbox to preach from.

You've never seen Good Will Hunting or Dead Poets Society? Good God Man!!! Stop whatever it is that you're doing now and go see them!!!
Got from the library now. Not having seen any of his movies, which of these two should I watch first?

There was some early speculation that he had money problems but that was shot down very quickly. Financially he was fine.

Dunno. The video linked earlier in this thread (and duplicated below) done by Stefan Molyneux contends that Robin Williams was hammered by his divorces and had to work like a maniac to stay out of prison.

Stefan Molyneux ruing Robin Williams suicide, toward the end fuming about the divorce court system = "The Truth About Robin Williams"

I don't think his drug habit was consuming millions of dollars, his 2 failed marriages were what was sapping him dry, the ridiculous stupid court system that insists that he must maintain a standard of living for someone he is no longer married to, god forbid they actually have to find a job. Adding insult to injury was that his exes probably hired expensive lawyers on his dime to make sure they were able to suck every penny they could from him.

meaning? :confused

Hook? Rotten Tomatoes has it as 4.4/10 (dreck) Hook at RT

Watched DPS last night. I have two others from library:

Garp
Good Will Hunting

Which next?

It's hard to watch Hook for the first time as an adult I think. I enjoyed it as a kid, but even rewatching it now I still like it (which I can't say for a lot of my childhood movies). It's actually not a great role for Robin Williams, but IMO more for Dustin Hoffman who made a pretty entertaining Captain Hook. If you have kids it might be something fun to watch together, but not worth it for just yourself.

For those of you haven't seen it, check out One Hour Photo. One of his better movies, IMO.

Absolutely this. One hour photo, dead poets society, good will hunting, good morning vietnam, and honestly I liked Insomnia as well.
