Could you imagine what it's like to be "on" all the time? He was manic, non stop. He probably felt he could never switch off and burned himself down.
He channels Jonathan Winters a lot, IMO. In the interview he mentions the experience of being with Winters like being with the master.
A person's world can suddenly seem like a very lonely and frightening place. To quote my favorite poet, William Blake: "God save you and me from single vision and Newton's sleep."
Jonathan Winters and Robin Williams were two of the most spontaneously spectacular funny guys ever. As a Geezer-American, I was privileged to see Winters, before he was mega-famous and over-exposed, be come on TV talk shows and just freaking take over, owning the whole damn set.
Wow, I guess what's even more shocking was he was not by any means broke, he could afford the best in treatment and rehab had to offer but in the end it wasn't enough, fucking depression is so more serious than many people think, RIP RW, thanks for all the laughs and great movies and how much you made us smile, dam this is shocking shit..
