Could you imagine what it's like to be "on" all the time? He was manic, non stop. He probably felt he could never switch off and burned himself down.

Horrible news and I can't stop thinking about it.

Was just about to introduce my boys to Aladdin too, now I don't want to watch it with them. Good Morning Vietnam is going to be hard to watch again too.

Poor guy, it's a tortured state to be in, and my heart goes out to him and his family. Thanks for the laughs Robin, and may you rest in peace.

Suicide is always hard to understand.
Some of the most strongest appearing well adjusted people are actually the most unstable.
I guess this is a talent to hide the pain from others?
Usually something has pushed one over the edge.
But we never can reason this out. Not when it comes to suicide.
He obviously felt it was his time to exit this world, for what ever his reason.‎
While it causes great hurt for others, I do, to a point, have to respect that personal decision.
Intervention may have helped, but we will never know what was going on inside, and it is impossible to really understand what was going on. And they are so good at hiding their pain from others. Especially from the closest of friends and family.
He decided this was his time to leave. I doubt anyone could have done anything about that.

One of my all time favorites. Grew up on his movies. One of the few celebrity deaths to actually give me pause. The man certainly had his demons, unfortunately. He is, and will be, missed far too early. Much love Robin.

Just goes to show you how serious depression is. All the money, fame and fortune in the world can not over ride its grip on a person. Sad because he was such an icon on comedy...Certainly somebody who will leave a lastly legacy in this world.

RIP

I have always liked his work. I was lucky enough to see him do standup several years ago. I laughed so much I was sore.
RIP Mork.

Man that sucks, but when I heard about it last night I thought it was just of natural causes, didn't realize it's a likely suicide.

RIP Batty - Fern Gully changed my life lol

He channels Jonathan Winters a lot, IMO. In the interview he mentions the experience of being with Winters like being with the master.

Excellent comparison. Jonathan Winters and Robin Williams were two of the most spontaneously spectacular funny guys ever. As a Geezer-American, I was privileged to see Winters, before he was mega-famous and over-exposed, be come on TV talk shows and just freaking take over, owning the whole damn set.

A person's world can suddenly seem like a very lonely and frightening place. To quote my favorite poet, William Blake: "God save you and me from single vision and Newton's sleep."

Of all the famous people I would have liked to spend a personal afternoon with, Robin Williams ranks right up at the top. He seemed like a man with a ton of heart to go with his awesome talent, a real mensch.

I could almost cry writing this.

It's strange - they were both pretty similar, yet I thought Jonathan Winters was funny as hell, and never cared much for Robin Williams. No disputing Williams brilliant improv and quick wit - nobody was faster. But there was something about him that turned me off. Winters was as brilliant and as quick but not as (what's the word... aggressive? pushy?) IMO. Maybe Williams gave off a vibe of "Look at me! Look at me, everyone!" that just didn't agree with me. Can't really explain it.

Very sad for his family and friends, though as there will be a lot of soul-searching.

Saw an anecdote in the paper demonstrating Williams' quickness - he and Penny Marshall were doing an interview to promote a movie and Marshall - instead of saying "mental hospital" - accidentally said "menstrual hospital" and Williams jumped in and said "It's a period piece."

Although wealth can attract crazy people, so it might be more difficult dealing with your issue with a bunch of crazy trying to get to you.

RIP Robin
