Not a fan of it. I especially don't like the fact that his family knows what he is. It was great in the original that his family thought he was dead. Not in a hurry to see it at all. Comes out this February.

I've been looking forward to two sci movies that were slated to be released this year, Ender's Game and RoboCop (which got pushed to 2014 last year).

This trailer makes me slightly less interested, though I still like the casting of Joel Kinnaman ("The Killing"). The only thing that the original RoboCop could benefit from a refresh is updated special effects - modern CGI is a lot better than the jerky stop motion they used for the ED-209. Rewatched RoboCop, and it's still a good action movie in all other respects. Rampant corporate and political corruption, a violent and gang-dominated Detroit, and a demoralized police force still seems like a relevant backdrop.

Thats the whole point. They made a great movie with less than awesome technology.

Ya, that's still hard to watch. The ending with the "meltdown" (or "off") is also hard.

That's one movie I wouldn't mind toned down a bit -- still an amazing and timeless movie.

They have him get dismembered by a car bomb? That's so shitty compared to the original. The scene where the gang fucks up Murphy is one of the things that made the movie great to start with. The original was great because it was brutal on every level, emotional and physical. Murphy is portrayed as the subject of almost constant torture on so many different fronts, which makes the payoff so much better when it happens. You have be serious about that to sell me on a new Robocop. This one looks too soft to me. It will probably be shit.

I would have to disagree for the ED-209. It's not old Godzilla movie bad by modern standards, but it's close. Not to mention the fact that today in real life we have robots that are capable of quieter and more natural movements, and better speech. The conceptualization of robots from the 80s seems as out of place in fiction today as the ideas of robots in the 50s and 60s did then, when actual robotics was starting to take off.

The old style robot baddies are okay once in a while on screen, but it's kind of funny to see how writers account for such things as Daleks and Cybermen in Doctor Who, which they kept mostly the same in design.

The Terminator franchise robots have some longevity since they are endoskeletons even underneath the realistic flesh covered units, and the T-1000 is essentially a shapeshifter, which has hung around as a concept (albeit first in fantasy and myth) as powerful characters.

What made the original Robocop so awesome was the over the top violence and satire that Paul Verhoeven is brilliant at.

Not enough content in the teaser for me to adequately gauge whether I'll be seeing this movie in theaters or waiting until the BD or waiting until Netflix or simply watching clips on YouTube.
