Robots replacing Surgeons

So I read an article somewhere about this. It is nothing really new, they already have physician assisted robots operating on patients. But i'm talking almost like a capsule or KIOSK you would go to and the robot will perform the entire surgery with little involvement of another human being.

Do you think people will accept this? How do you think it will impact physicians?

YEP, actually I just watched that movie, this is where the idea sparked again in my mind.....

If it were to happen, it wouldn't be until about 200 years from now. Robotic assisted surgery now is pretty cool, but all it does is help make optic magnification higher, make incisions smaller, and help with hand tremors. There are too many factors involved in surgery and differences in human anatomy and scar tissue that require a human brain to make judgment calls at the last minute.

When robots are advanced enough to replace the surgeon, anesthesiologist and nurses in an OR, then they'll be smart enough to replace humans in all jobs.

200 years might be a bit long, but he is right: we are nowhere close to autonomous surgeries. The Davinci robot is amazing (I got to drive one last summer at a conference), but they aren't even trying to give it sensing or autonomy at the moment, because the technology is not there yet.

The newer SILS DaVinci (single incision) is neat too, but the only thing that it does to help sensing is reversing the left and right to feel intuitive (same name as the company heh) and to remove the surgeons hand tremors.

I wish it was that close, but it's impossible to think that close. The tech isn't even close to that and the trials/FDA clearance/surgeon associations/hospital risk alone would take over 100 years minimum.
