rock band/360 dlc question

me and a buddy have a combined ridiculous amount of RB DLC.

i have heard that you can move it to a flash drive, and use it on multiple systems (i.e. share each others' hundreds of dollars of DLC).

my question is, does he have to actually remove it from his xbox to be able to bring the flash drive over to my house and play it? he has a large HDD and doesnt want to have to plug a slow flash drive in every time he wants to play rock band.

googled answers are all over the place. any RB players know for sure how this works? not talking piracy here, just being able to bring over a game AND DLC to a buddies house without brining xbox. as stated, not having to PERMANENTLY store ~15GB of RB stuff on a flash drive would be a plus.

if you copy the DLC to a flash drive, it should work in any other 360 as long as the purchasing gamertag is logged into live. make sure you copy the gamertag to the flash drive too (or you could recover it).

you COULD license his DLC to your 360 (and vice versa), but you'd have to redownload all the DLC manually and can only do this once a year. http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/licensemigration/faq

I don't think it's going to work. Rock band DLC restrictions over and above the standard ones. I brought my console over to a friends house and without connecting it to the net, a lot of tracks didn't show up at all.

Maybe that was it, but Im pretty damn sure it was my console and hard drive. Maybe it was the RB1 import that didn't work...this was back in the RB2 days.

Rock Band DLC, like any other DLC, will work if:

a) It's on the console where it was purchased (or license-transferred to).

OR

b) If the account that purchased it is signed into Xbox Live.

EDIT: To answer the original question, there's no reason he has to remove the DLC from the hard drive, just copy it. The Live profile must be moved, though. Since I have two Xbox's now, I keep my profile on a USB stick, but all DLC stays on the drive.

I'm not sure I get what you're saying here, but if you're thinking you will be able to use both of your profiles AND DLC on both consoles online and offline then there's no way.

If you use his HDD on your xbox then that DLC will only work when he is logged in to Live because your console still isn't authorized for that DLC. It doesn't matter if it's via HDD or flash drive... your console is not authorized for that DLC so it'll only work when the authorized profile is logged in.

right. what im saying is that with the licensed console, all the dlc will work off a flash drive, with a totally different HDD and gamer profile. offline or online. we've tested this.

we've tested PART OF IT. the part you are saying does not work. we have not tested the part you say does work, so i can only assume that it will not.

Then when you try it just tell us what happens. Somebody will have to be logged in to live to have it all working... I don't know what's so hard to understand. Let's say you have console and HDD "A", and your friend has console and HDD "B"

Situation 1: Data from "B" is plugged into console "A" via USB. Data from B will only work if profile B is also logged into live. All data from A will work in all profiles on and offline on console A.

Situation 2: Swap HDDs (or xboxes). Say your friend now has xbox A (yours) and HDD B. You then plug in your USB stick. DLC on HDD B won't work until friend signs into Live. Data on USB A will work on or offline because this is the authorized console (A)

The only way to do this is if you guys give each other passwords and log in with the person needed. Problem is when that happens, it logs you out on the home console and you need to reinput the password again to get your profile back. The profile import takes 5-10 minutes every time, regardless of if it's on the USB stick or not.

I don't know how much easier anybody can make it for you. It's simple: the non-authorized DLC needs online connection to work.

before i say anything else- a thousand pardons, i was frustrated and every single thing i kept getting told disagreed with everything else. we simply weren't in a position to do copious testing at the time, and i was a dick.

but it also needs the associated profile. this is where we ran into confusion, with copying/moving profiles.
