I won't speak for MrPickins, but I personally am going to teach my daughter the same thing about speaking up for what she believes in. If she believes marriage should be between one man and one woman, I'm going to look at her funny, and she won't get to go over to grandma's anymore, but I'm not going to censor her right to have an opinion and voice it. And if she ever gets fired for wearing a beefcake shirt, I'm just going to laugh and ask her why on Earth she thought that was a good idea.

What if she thinks or feels that all jews belong in an oven? Look at her funny? Silly comparison? Where do you draw the line? How about drawing it at what's rational. Nobody mentioned anything about censorship. Of course people should be able to say whatever they want, but saying that this man's shirt wearing perpetuates sexism is idiotic and unjustifiable. Harassing this guy, making him feel bad (or trying to), and forcing him to abandon his integrity in order to keep his job (or to stop the harassment) is immoral. Way to go setting an example! Now stop abusing your children, please, guys.

If you can point to a single post where you felt I was harassing this guy or threatening his job, I'll gladly clarify my position for you. Otherwise, you're arguing against a strawman. Or someone else who said idiotic things that I won't claim as my own.

I wouldn't disagree that people should not be immune from criticism for the bad/dumb things they do just because they do good things. I just believe that good work should temper that criticism, to the point of politely ignoring a tacky shirt if a man has just done something incredible for mankind.

And me too on the shirts - but with engineers there's a REALLY low bar for fashion sense. Although I'm not nearly smart enough to pull off that shirt on my best day.
