There probably won't be much interest in the game at all, let alone on the PC side, but that's what I bought it for so that's where I'll post it.

Anyway, it was released yesterday and I'm a big fan of the new one. The first one did a great job of introducing the technology, but the UI was clunky and made it a chore to get to certain things. Now things are very smooth with little to no loading times. Just like the first one, it makes playing the guitar fun again (I've played for years but don't do it often anymore).

The ONLY issue I was having with it is at times during the "riff repeater" on a slower speed, the audio and game seemed to not be perfectly synced. While playing full speed everything is great with no latency, so it just seems to be a small bug that can be fixed.

I've been on the fence about buying this for my sons - I'll probably wait for the package deal (whatever the required hardware bit is ) to go on sale and pick it up.

While I haven't touched the old one in awhile, it's more due to lack of time and inclination than not wanting to play it.

I will be picking this up probably from GMG whenever they decide to let their coupons work on it. I'm a bit put off that they are charging the same price as hard copy that comes with the cable for a Steam version, plus the $10 extra to "convert" your old songs to the new format...however the updates they made sound intriguing.

As for your audio sync issue..this was common in the old one too..you had to out your audio directly to a receiver/speaker and not use your HDMI output. The lag/audio sync issues in the PC version put alot of people off, but for anyone who enjoys music and is interested at all in guitar, it is worth the effort as it is very fun and does actually improve your playing.

Biggest downside is the songs themselves, but they represent a large range of playing styles even if you hate the songs themselves.

I was interested in the PC version, but my old roommate bought the Xbox version when it came out. The huge problem for me was the songs were just not fun to play. I can actually play guitar and it was just not a huge amount of fun to play those songs. My roommate had a blast learning though.

I picked it up on PC last night, but I was having all kinds of problems with the audio. I had the previous version on the PC as well so all my DLC would supposedly be accessible. But when I tried to play it, the patch cable was giving me all kinds of problems even though it works perfectly fine under the original.

There is a cyclic interference (3-4 second intervals) in which it picks up all kinds of noise/notes which is clearly audible in Rocksmith 2014, yet if I simply drop to windows and listen to the device and play, the interference does not exist. Nor does it happen in the original game. I might simply need a new patch cord, but this only happen in 2014 edition and nowhere else (I have even recorded off it in the past using other programs and never experienced this interference).

Steam isn't charging extra. The version with the cable is $79. The one without is $59. Steam is charging $59. The $9 is the same charge that PS3 and Xbox 360 users have to importing the songs from the original game. It is more of a console fee that I don't think the PC users should have had, but for consistancy in pricing I can see why they did it (in the consoles you could simply rent the original and import the songs if it was simply free to import, which is why there is a $9 fee, but for the Steam version, they know you already own the game...).

Hmm I've been tempted to get this as I've heard it's a good improvement over the original, which I have. I'll probably wait for a sale.

It shouldn't be too hard to find the patch cable as it's the same one from the original Rocksmith. I think I paid maybe $10-15 for one last year.

I'm not sure what all this means, but there is zero difference in PC and console pricing. You still need to pay to import your songs on the PC version. It has absolutely nothing to do with consoles, it's a licensing fee which is necessary regardless of what system you use. It's DLC listed under Rocksmith 2014 steam page, but I didn't see it listed in the DLC list in game.

I bought the original and basically learned to play guitar and bass from scratch using Rocksmith; it inspired me enough that I went out to find a band to jam with on bass. It was by far the best investment I've ever made on a 'game'. I always recommend and tell people about it, or have them come over and try it. Everyone's reacted positively after trying it except for this one chick who seems to think guitars are for teenagers

Pre-ordered on Steam, but where I live RS2014 doesn't unlock for another 20 hours!

I saw on the UBI forums that lots of people were having problems with the DLC from RS.

Big improvements eh? I really had little problems with the first version (have a copy for both PC and PS3).

Yeah, unfortunately the PC version has quite a few "problems". There are a lot of people who can't even get past the first loading screen. I have the cyclic audio interference bug combined with the slowdown bug. But at least my original DLC songs seem to have shown up (as well as the import of the original). I say seem because I have not verified that every song is there, because that seems to be a bug as well with people missing a few songs.

Thats somewhat underwhelming as I would likely pick up 14 for the PC rather than my PS3 (living room is less accessible at this point). But your PC DLC does transfer to the new version? PS3/XBox DLC still can't be imported to the PC, right? I have quite a bit more DLC on my PS3 and really wish I could get it over to the PC.

PC DLC will transfer between versions, and a patch was released yesterday that fixed the issues with DLC not showing up at first. They fixed it within 24 hours of release but the complaining spread so fast that's all people have heard about it.

I haven't had any issues with it and I've put 3 hours in. It seems like they're pretty serious about getting things fixed quickly, so it seems like a winner to me.

Gorcorps, yes, they patched to get the songs to show up, but as I said, there are documented cases of people who are missing several of the songs they previously purchased even after the patch which restored the majority of the songs. It basically has made it that you need to go verify that every song is there because it can't currently be trusted that they are all there.

But to me, that really is a minor issue compared to the failed loading screen, the cyclic audio distortion, and the slowdown bugs. Those are all essentially gamestopping bugs. Getting the DLC to be recognized and imported was a simply/minor issue that you know is a fairly easy fix. But those other bugs are not an easy fix.

I have been enjoying RS 2014 a lot. Building up those callouses again!

This and BF4 is going to keep me plenty busy in the coming months.

I have essentially zero experience playing guitar. I've toyed around with an acoustic guitar that was either mine, or somehow at my mother's house years ago. I've always wanted to learn how to play.

Anyway, so Best Buy just had a sale on Rocksmith 2014 the other day. I actually bought it for XBox 360 as my computer monitor is too small to see notes (~23") and I don't want to bother running a long HDMI cord or whatever to my TV.

I bought a Schecter C-1 Blood Moon guitar too, which seems to be a great bargain from everything I've heard. With the bundle discount, I paid $186 for the guitar and $80 for the game + cable.

This is the guitar I bought: Link

And a video of it in action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jpu76Q5YCXw

I'm excited about learning how to play. I was really good at Guitar Hero (could get 95+% scores on most expert songs), and generally have a good ear for music, good timing, rhythm, etc. I'm hoping this ends up being really fun and allows me to learn how to play reasonably well.

After hacking apart the game's ini file I was able to resolve my audio issues. Basically they had made some "improvements" on how to handle the audio to reduce lag. Unfortunately for many people those "improvements" caused game breaking audio slowdowns along with a ton of interference/noise. One of the settings in the ini file will disable all the new settings and basically revert the game to the same/similar path used in the original Rocksmith game.

Did you find this yourself or is there a guide that describes this? It'd be good to see what you did in case others have issues. I don't have any problems when playing normally but it'd still be nice to compare.

I was working on it by myself, but there now is a guide that explains the new ini file on the ubisoft forums.

Did you play any of the Guitar Hero games? Were they fun to you?

I have the original for PC. The load times and horrible interface killed it for me.
It was a lot of fun and I really liked the game play though.

I will give 2014 a try once it drops in price a little.
I'm gonna go check out the songs list now... (hopefully some more Pearl Jam!)

Oh good, this list of songs looks great.
