I also have friends who give me crap for owning a motorcycle...they just don't get it. Neither do you apparently.

I get it.... I just don't feel like taking that risk with my life. I trust myself on a bike, but not all the other idiots on the road. In a car, at least I have something around me to take the initial impact.

Live your life in fear. Be sure and let me know how that works out for you.

Honestly, if I feared dying or getting into an accident I probably wouldn't ride but that doesn't mean I take extreme risks or don't wear proper gear. I'm not a crazy rider and I do wear proper gear.

To talk about the Monster 1100 EVO. Ducati North America has told dealers that the bike will be coming in the second to third week of May and that each dealer will be getting only 1 or 2 bikes at first. Oddly the dealer I talked to said they have had a bunch of calls about the bike but no deposits yet.

He did give me a reasonable OTD price with a little profit built in for him which I'm fine with. I may just put down a $500 deposit to stake my claim on the first one he gets...as long as it is red.

Oh, and you'll all be happy to know that I didn't die!
That's not odd. That's called people can't afford toys anymore.

Are you going to keep the stock exhaust or go with something aftermarket? Looking at it again, the twin cans just look awkward, almost makes me think that the bike would look better with them mounted up high under the seat.

I'm suprised that oilfieldtrash decides to get all lippy over Jules upgrading from an SV to a Duck. Maybe he's butthurt that you're not going to a supersport.

I'd love to pick up an 1198, but they're too expensive & have had too many issues for me to want to deal with right now. It would certainly be a nice addition to the RR though. Would love to own both.

Go get it & ride it like you stole it man. Don't worry about what the folks around here say about owning a bike.

So far I've only seen the Termignoni exhaust for the EVO and it looks good. Similar to the twin cans on the old S4R but not as high mounted.

I've ridden supersports. They just aren't my thing.

do it.

the duc's realy arent near as bad on maintenace as they used to be

the belts and valve intervals are getting in line with the jap bikes, and I rode my buddies 1100 he bought last year, it was oh so nice.

I was shopping aprillias but they are worse than ducs and my nearest dealer is 2 hours away. only 80 minutes to the duc dealer though....

Those full exhausts are frickin expensive. Arrow wants $1200 for the 3-in-1 lowboy. Might have to save my pennies for that cause it sure as hell aint coming out of the skydiving fund.

I don't think I'd have a problem going out in a ball of fire or some other spectacular motorcycle crash. Problem is odds are equally as good I'd end up a vegetable or in a wheel chair. I'll stick to my four wheeled conveyances for now.

You need to post back when you put your deposit down. Remember, you're not getting any younger. What are we talking about here. $12k? Just do it man. Don't wuss!

That looks uncomfortable as heck for your junk. Is your crotch really up against the back of the gas tank while you're riding it? You prolly gotta do a man-gina tuck so you don't squish your twig and berries.

So, you trading in your SV when you get it? Or you going to sell it to some lucky ATer in San Diego who's looking for a good deal? *wink wink*

I have a buddy who has had a few Ducati's sport bikes. I rode a 900 SS when he had that and my biggest gripe was the dry clutch - at least for the street it wasn't for me. Otherwise I loved it. He's never has had much trouble with them afaik but the aftermarket is expensive, and I have to say they are a thing of beauty from a design & build perspective. He has a 1198 now, but I never even asked to ride that as I already know the answer. If I ever got back into bikes it'd be something a bit more comfortable for longer trips, but in Wisconsin it's gonna be parked for a good portion of the year - been there done that (along with snowmobiles).

I say if you can reasonably swing it, go for it. Gotta have at least one hobby that you spend lots of money on simply because you enjoy it, and living in Cali you can ride pretty much year round.

Selling it. Not yet though. This new bike isn't even hitting showrooms for another month and I don't want to be without a bike for that long.

Dealer offered me $2800 on trade but I'm thinking more like $3800 private party including a PitBull rear stand.

I rode the Monster 1100 S demo bike a couple summers ago and it had the dry clutch. Didn't seem to bother me at all, just the rattle is kind of annoying. This new Monster 1100 EVO has a wet clutch though.

I've ridden the Monster 1100 S which is the predecessor to this bike and virtually the same riding position. Wasn't a problem. You generally use your legs to grip the tank anyway to support your upper body so I didn't find myself sliding into the tank like you suggest. I found the riding position to be a little more aggressive (forward leaning) on the 1100 S but this one is supposed to be a bit more relaxed. And by a bit we're talking maybe an inch higher riser on the handlebars.

I also prefer the way Ducati routed the exhaust on this bike. The previous model had a lot of heat coming out of the left side of the bike, just below the seat, while idling. Enough to make your left leg uncomfortably hot.

I'm only posting these links because you asked. I don't want to come across as being anti-Ducati, because I'm not, I love those damn bikes, but neither of my Hondas or Gixxers gave me any of these problems.
