I personally think there should be exceptions for rape, Incest and Medical reasons. But the law that is going into effect in Texas doesn't ban abortions for medical emergencies.
From the article linked above.
Texas has another law, passed in 2021, that will go into effect in the coming weeks which makes performing an abortion a felony punishable by up to life in prison. The ban makes an exception if a licensed physician determines that the woman faces a life-threatening physical condition.
Here’s the issue with these laws.
What happens if the doctor is wrong about how life threatening the problem is? He’ll be investigated, lose his medical license and potential be criminally prosecuted.
He’ll need to wait until it’s obviously life threatening.
When doctors let potentially life threatening conditions persist sometimes the condition progresses so fast that they can’t stop it and the patient dies.
Now imagine it is your mother, or wife, or daughter, or grand daughter lying in a hospital bed waiting to get just close enough to death that the doctor can save them.
Will you pressure the doctor to treat them? If you do he might say medical indications are I should save your loved one but I must satisfy the politicians in Austin first.
Or would you tell your loved one that just for the infinitesimal chance the baby survives their death is a risk you’re willing to take.
