Looks like one of the state rights justices left this out as well in the list of cases to overturn Coker v. Georgia ... oh wait.... they like Matt Gatez, and Matt Gatez would not like that ruling to be over turned.

I actually have bad news for those that think Trump should go to jail. In order for Trump to go to jail for "repeatedly being involved in acts that jepordize the Democracy in America", all jurors must find Trump not just guilty of a single act, but must also all agree that Trump did this repeatedly.

RICHARDSON v. UNITED STATES

I don't think he should go to jail. He should go to the gallows for his attempted coup.

I'm no constitutional scholar but it does explicitly state the right to bear arms is necessary to the security of a free state.

You don't seem to comprehend or appreciate the hypocrisy in the SCOTUS' decisions on gun control and Roe v Wade just now. Probably safe to say your disclaimer there is entirely unnecessary.

Regardless, you are the kind of poster who presents misleading info in bad faith, as we've established in another thread already. Predictably, you've left out the militia and well regulated parts. In essence, you and the others that place guns ahead of kids are puffing up patriotically over Marion Hammer's warped interpretation of something that was meant to assuage slave owners losing sleep over Haiti. That's what this boils down to. Love of the Constitution just doesn't fly from the same people still trying to kill elections and prevent people from exercising their Constitutional right to vote.

What's necessary for the security of this state is that it not be governed by a religious and political minority that holds itself above the law.

Cognitive dissonance is a hell of a drug. It hasn't been about consistent beliefs for years. It's all about control and cruelty. And if you can dunk on libs in the process then go ahead and run up the scoreboard.

Our parties are playing two wildly different games with an entirely more disparate set of rules.

Like the fact like you are upset about random tweets, but not a coordinated, violent insurrection.
Oh yes, the violent insurrection. How could we forget about all those Trump supporting, AR wielding, MAGA insanos that violently stormed the capitol. Oh wait...

I wouldn't describe it as being "upset". Concerned, yes. Not like we're talking about those dreadful mean tweets from Trump, right?

There are numerous Supreme Court cases that give the right to women to get an out of state abortion, and not get stoped by the state to do so.
* Crandall v. Nevada, 73 U.S. 35 (1868) Freedom of movement between states is a fundamental right; a state cannot inhibit people from leaving it by imposing a tax on doing so.
* Kent v. Dulles, 357 U.S. 116 (1958) The right to travel is a part of the "liberty" of which the citizen cannot be deprived without due process of law under the Fifth Amendment.
* United States v. Guest, 383 U.S. 745 (1966) There is a constitutional right to travel from state to state, and the protections of the Fourteenth Amendment extend to citizens who suffer deprivations of their rights at the hands of a private conspiracy where there is state participation in the conspiracy, no matter how minimal.
* Corfield v. Coryell, 6 Fed. Cas. 546 (C.C.E.D. Pa. 1823) Some of the rights protected by the Privileges and Immunities Clause include the freedom of movement through the states, the right of access to the courts, the right to purchase and hold property, an exemption from higher taxes than those paid by state residents, and the right to vote. This case was decided by Supreme Court Justice Bushrod Washington while riding circuit in the Circuit Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. It is notable for Washington asserting the existence of cognizable rights within the ambit of the Privileges and Immunities Clause that are nowhere within the Constitution's text.
* Cohens v. Virginia, 19 U.S. 264 (1821) State laws in opposition to national laws are void. The U.S. Supreme Court has appellate jurisdiction for any U.S. case and final say.
* Cooper v. Aaron, 358 U.S. 1 (1958) The states are bound by the decisions of the Supreme Court and cannot choose to ignore them.

Are you claiming a violent insurrection didn’t happen on January 6th?

I would argue that everyone on the republican side just wanted the opportunity to verify the elections were in fact, free. But instead we got a big "no standing" from SCOTUS. The whole issue with election integrity was the confidence got destroyed when democrats didn't support any transparency.

You remember people died, right? Then majority of House Rs voted to make Trump a tyrant just a few hours after the insurrection IIRC. We got to see Eastman's plan in .pdf on how they were going to subvert the will of over 80million Americans, just none of it concerns you though, right? All the Proudbitch and Oathpussy planning and organizing, doing recon day before? Nothing huh?

The asshats who gave us Ben Ghazi and the Buttery Males mocking the much needed investigation into the worst threat to our democracy since the Civil War. Haha, sure. Keep doing that, same for the tweet mentions. Yeah, Il Douche conducting US foreign policy, complete with saber rattling, via twitter, why so sensitive libs? That's some classy shit, like cold hamberders to victors from Clemson, or better yet, charging kids with cancer a cut of their charity take. Thank goodness we've got repugs to tell us which people to worship, people might start liking that Zelenskyy guy, or *shudder* Bernie!

You're either hopelessly ignorant on this, or in complete agreement with those who tried to overthrow an election (read:traitors)

And this Divine Court has no use nor concern for any precedent, they are irrelevant if the religious conservatives decide they are inconvenient.

But the courts did verify this. Are you saying we shouldn’t believe the courts?

The US is just a terrible backwards place, with just a few (albeit very large) pockets of decency. When people say that the US is great, or that "a lot of people want to move there", they mostly just talk about California/NY and a handful of other blue state. The others are mostly just terrible.

GG for the GOP, they played the long game. With the help of gerrymandering, some luck with RBG, Fox news, and the Federalist society - they got what they wanted. I've seen enough politics in the US to understand that the Democrats will get wiped out in the mid-terms even after this terrible week.

People can whine all they want with regards to the fact that the SC judges lied in their hearings, it doesn't matter now. Susan Collins will say that she was cheated or whatever, and I've seen that Manchin admit to that as well. The judges won't get impeached. The democrats have very few options, given the state of the Senate - and it'll only get worse after the mid-terms.

Quite frankly, Dems deserve to get wiped out and they need to rebuild or a new party needs to emerge. Maybe a few decades of GOP rule will allow a new party to rise.

The Democratic party as we know it will cease to exist after 2024 anyway. At least as a national party.

You are correct as long as the woman doesn't return to the state. You are also forgetting states have allowed vigilante enforcement so the rules are now changed.

There is no legal standing that would support such argument. The vigilante enforcement hasn't been tested in court yet.

I think Americans who are against this need to seriously start to think what they are going to do in 2024 when both the senate and congress are majority republican and Trump gets re-elected. Trump will fill every position with the most right wing extremest he can and then go about undermining democracy and the rule of law to give him and his family permanent power.
Using his army of violent brainwashed followers and mass dis-information campaigns America can become the land of the cowards and enslaved.
