Yes, yes, it's Brother Micah. Was at my university (U of Alabama) around the 3rd week of March. We gave him an interesting time to say the least. He sang the same song too.

Nah. Different guy. This guy's been here for years and lives in Newark DE.

<---- UD student

Ahh, I know who you're talking about. Usually hangs out on College Ave...yeah, I've been tempted to tell him off a couple times.

Yup. The Kirkbride Jesus Guy (Hangs out in front of Kirkbride Hall). You go to UD?

Nope, but I live a mile or two from there.

I love how a simple observation about a guy preaching on a corner has deteriorated into the standard religion argument.

Reminds me of the one time we had the abortion protesters out in full force with their signs of bloody embryos and stuff like "This is why abortion should be illegal." Well one guy decided to make his own sign that said "THIS is why abortion is legal" with an arrow pointed toward the protesters. I laughed, but I think he was forced to move after a little while.

Why do Christians think they can convert people this way?

Who says he's Christian?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian

If he's mentioning God, or Jesus in his songs...chances are he is in some way, shape, or form. He may not even believe the same thing you do...still lumped into the same category.

A lot of people can say whatever they want and claim to be doing God's work, that does not necessarily make it so.

And what proof is required for someone to be called a Christian. Is there an organization that certifies people as Christians? Yeah I didn't think so. You may not like it but most of the people are Christians. They just have radically different views of Christianity than you do.

Ever heard of confirmation? That's about as close as you can get to certified Christian.

Even confirmed Christians can try to spread their word (rather than the word) through means that are dubious at best. That is not necessarily what is encouraged (e.g. tolerance, humility, understanding). To me, a man standing in a public area screaming that homosexuals and masturbators will burn in hell, and claiming to do so in the name of Jesus, is not that much different than certain (i.e. 'radical') Muslims blowing up places and people, allegedly in the name of Allah.

EDIT: The point I'm trying to make is that this screaming man, and others like him in public and on TV, should not be taken as the representation of Christian values.

What fun would that be?

Actually, the Bible does say clearly who is a Christian, and how to tell true ones from people who just want to use his name. The books of Matthew and 1John would be enough to prove this, and there's plenty more besides. A Christian is somebody who obeys and imitates Christ. Even apart from the Bible, basic logic should suffice for that one. Christ did not act like this guitar guy, and the guitar guy did not act like Christ. It's just about that simple.

How can so many different views all be the same views? If one person commits adultery and one does not, one is being Christian and one is not. If one person is truthful and another lies all the time, one is being Christian and one is not. If one person scorns the Bible and another earnestly studies it, one is being Christian and one is not. Christ didn't believe black and white, up and down, liberal and conservative, ninja and pirate. He believed and taught what he believed and taught, and it is what it is, whether or not anyone understands, obeys, or likes it. Two people cannot have radically different views and both be having and obeying the same one other person's views and teachings. You're saying that somebody who has no idea what Christianity is or is about and is not willing to adjust his behavior or attitudes can just say "I'm a Christian" and make it so. Rubbish!

If people take his teachings and twist, trim, rearrange, misunderstand, or disobey them, they are not following his teachings but their own, and they are NOT CHRISTIANS (basic human imperfection aside). If you called yourself a Marxist but argued for a completely free market, people would know that you were not what you called yourself, even though I don't know of an official Marxist seal of approval society. It's not some leap of logic. It's more like, few people know the Bible or Christianity or want to, but talk about what it says and means anyway as if their personal opinions are binding on the subject. If someone says Jesus said all fags go to hell, it doesn't make it true, it doesn't mean He said it, and it doesn't mean that because someone mentioned Jesus they're a Christian.

I've never seen any of these kinds of people at my campus. I sort of feel like I am missing out.

Ah, interesting. I could swear that was the same song BM sang though.

Most compuses have their own designated wacko. At NCSU it was Gary for several years. He would scream red-faced in front of a big wooden cross at the brickyard most days. Like typical campus preachers, he hated everyone, especially "sodomizing homo perverts."

He was in prison for several years before recanting his "wicked ways," so I always took his homophobia as a reaction to prison anal rapings that he most likely experienced. The students that gathered around, mostly arguing with him, were known as "Branch Garidians."

It was probably guilt centered around the idea that he liked those anal rapings, but can't admit it to himself.

I believe that is the general consensus A Haggert in the making...
