Skip rogaine,

go for propecia, it is the best thing for *maintaining* hair. Wont grow back that much. But then neither will Rogaine.


I tried rogaine for more than a year. Rogaine is minoxodil 2-5% suspended in an alcohol solution.

Because you have to put it on in the morning and at night, and the fact that you are in essence putting alchohol on your scalp and hair, your scalp and hair will suffer alot of drying.

I dubbed rogaine "Bad hair in a bottle", because of the drying effect. Propecia works as well if not better, and you take it orally.

No known side effects with Rogaine. Side effects for propecia are "No Captain Happy Pants For You". But that is only in 2% of the cases.

Forget Rogaine. Right now I'm using Proscar which is the same pill as Prophecia only 4 times bigger than Propecia and it's cheaper. Do some search on the net for Proscar and you'll find out.

I wouldn't hold too much faith in Propecia/Proscar either. The people who I know who have taken it for over a year, including myself, are not impressed with the results, and a very popular hairloss messageboard is full of unhappy Propecia users.

Many users of Propecia go though what is called a "Shedding Phase" in which hair loss accelerates when Propecia is first taken. This can cause a dramatic increase in hairloss which for some people scares them enough to immediately quit taking Propecia and accept their fate.

Personally speaking, I got much better results keeping the hair I have by ditching Propecia (which was costing my over $40/month) and shampooing with Nizoral 2% Shampoo 3 times weekly.
