the planet jumping at the start made me think it was gonna be bad, but later that stopped and it was okay.

I didn't like the cinematography for the planet battle scene at the end. Nothing special about it, not very star warsy, gritty, or realistic. It kinda reminded me of a generic call of duty commercial.

The AT-AT coming out of the junglewas cool though

That was my biggest peeve as well (next to the mediocre music) was all the planet jumping. Just seemed too scattered for the first 1/3rd or so of the movie. Almost as if they were trying to force (hhahaha) how big the world is on you, and show off all these locations. It hurt the overall flow of the movie.

That said, I still really enjoyed it. Will probably see it again over Xmas.

I agree. Just saw this yesterday and I came away impressed, besides a bit too much planet jumping in the beginning 1/3rd of the movie. I don't mind if they do some but it was too much. That's why I didn't like The Force Awakens much, it was so all over the place all the time. Way worse than Rogue One was. But then the narrative in Rogue started to come together and it turned into a great movie. I liked it better than The Force Awakens for sure. The ending of Rogue One was crazy, you rarely ever see big blockbuster films about good vs bad guys end like that. Amazing

By far the best Star Wars movie to date in my opinion. I loved how dark it was. Especially loved the combat, both on the ground and in space. Much more realistic and believable as opposed to accepting that an elite Imperial force can lose to a bunch of teddy bears with sticks. I hope they make more dark Star Wars movies like this.

Meant to post that a couple days ago. They've now taken top movie of 2015 and 2016, not to mention the first two movies released took in 2/3 of what they paid for the property. If that's not damning on how Georgie didn't handle the franchise lately, don't know what else would be.

I'm sure Disney recouped their investment off the merchandise/movie/home video/attractions of 7 alone. The rest is pure gravy. I don't think George really cared how much he got for it as he just gave it to charity anyway. One thing I like about George is that Star Wars was no so overexposed under him and he pushed the envelope for quality productions like Clone Wars. Disney is solely a profit machine in comparison, the instant the dollars and cents didn't add up quite right on their spread sheet they gutted Clone Wars before its last two arcs were even finished. They ended Dark Horse's comics contract and with it the mind blowing Dark Times series in favor of giving it to the more action-ie explosions prone Marvel, who they also own. They started their own show in Rebels but it's clear it's made with bargain basement production values and watered down violence. People give George a hard time about the prequels but I thought Episode 3 said a lot more than 7 does. 7 was just fluff and rehashing.

You're entirely glossing over him slowing the rate or stopping entirely the production of stuff when others didn't line what he was doing. Don't like ewoks, see ya in 2 decades. Don't like jarjar, see ya after I sell it off. Don't like what I go to outside of star wars I'll stop making movies entirely.

I do have a question here...
In the very begning of the movie we see Cassian Andor shoot someone who couldn't get away from the stormtroopers, and then he climbs/sneaks away. Why did he shoot this guy?
But, yea, this is hands down the best movie in the Star Wars saga. I've enjoyed watching several times, and each time I pick out something new.

He was an informant, and Cassian didn't want to leave him to be interrogated. That's the character's reason, but the story reason is that it shows how ruthless the character is and what lengths he goes to. It also serves to show how the character changes from the beginning to where he refuses to shoot Gaelen Erso later on.

Oh, and this is most definitely not the best Star Wars movie.

I think it's mostly to set the tone for character build later in the movie. It also resets some of the perspective that Rebels = Goodie McGoodDoers. But the practical reason is so that
dead men can't tell tales

It's coming. But they gotta' double dip. It's harder to do that when they release the 4k version with all the bonus content right off the bat.

I think what disappointed me about it even more than usual is that I see where the movie had a lot of potential and how it kind of fell flat. To be blunt, the biggest problem with telling a "known story" -- in this case, one where we know the result -- is that viewers aren't largely invested in the story as much. The movie needs to be carried by the other elements, which could be things like well-written characters or good comedy. You can also argue that this same thing applies to movies that are heavily based upon tropes as that in and of itself doesn't ruin a movie. What ruins those kinds of movies is that they never achieve anything beyond the tropes.

Anyway, the point that I'm trying to make in a not-so-succinct manner is that Rogue One didn't do that well. There were a couple good scenes with characters, but largely, the characters felt dull.

Red Letter Media put out a good video on it. It does toss out some big spoilers for Rogue One and Force Awakens, so don't watch it if you haven't seen both or don't mind spoiling them.

I wanted to watch that video but the way the guy talks is so fucking annoying my ears started bleeding immediately and to save my life I had to stop.

Hm... maybe you could just speed up the YouTube video and it'll not sound so monotone. I'm pretty used to it as I've seen all of the prequel reviews, which are also done with the Plinkett persona (and that voice). I could probably link the Half in the Bag episode (another show done by the same people) about Rogue One, which contains some similar thoughts, but it's a longer video. It also lacks that voice.

The best price I found for it was in a bay of scallywags I got it from a week ago.

The story and characters were the weakest part of this movie. They gave us no reason to care about anyone or anything. The only semi enjoyable character was a Droid. It's sad to say that even Phantom Menace made us care more about he characters in that movie than this.
