That was my biggest peeve as well (next to the mediocre music) was all the planet jumping. Just seemed too scattered for the first 1/3rd or so of the movie. Almost as if they were trying to force (hhahaha) how big the world is on you, and show off all these locations. It hurt the overall flow of the movie.
That said, I still really enjoyed it. Will probably see it again over Xmas.
In the very begning of the movie we see Cassian Andor shoot someone who couldn't get away from the stormtroopers, and then he climbs/sneaks away. Why did he shoot this guy?
I do have a question here...
But, yea, this is hands down the best movie in the Star Wars saga. I've enjoyed watching several times, and each time I pick out something new.In the very begning of the movie we see Cassian Andor shoot someone who couldn't get away from the stormtroopers, and then he climbs/sneaks away. Why did he shoot this guy?
is so.He was an informant, and Cassian didn't want to leave him to be interrogated. That's the character's reason, but the story reason is that it shows how ruthless the character is and what lengths he goes to. It also serves to show how the character changes from the beginning to where he refuses to shoot Gaelen Erso later on.
Oh, and this is most definitely not the best Star Wars movie.
is so.
I think what disappointed me about it even more than usual is that I see where the movie had a lot of potential and how it kind of fell flat. To be blunt, the biggest problem with telling a "known story" -- in this case, one where we know the result -- is that viewers aren't largely invested in the story as much. The movie needs to be carried by the other elements, which could be things like well-written characters or good comedy. You can also argue that this same thing applies to movies that are heavily based upon tropes as that in and of itself doesn't ruin a movie. What ruins those kinds of movies is that they never achieve anything beyond the tropes.
Anyway, the point that I'm trying to make in a not-so-succinct manner is that Rogue One didn't do that well. There were a couple good scenes with characters, but largely, the characters felt dull.
Red Letter Media put out a good video on it. It does toss out some big spoilers for Rogue One and Force Awakens, so don't watch it if you haven't seen both or don't mind spoiling them.
I wanted to watch that video but the way the guy talks is so fucking annoying my ears started bleeding immediately and to save my life I had to stop.
