Star Wars Rogue One' to Feature Digitally Recreated Grand Moff Tarkin Aug 2015

Peter Cushing, who played primary antagonist Grand Moff Tarkin in 1977's "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope", will appear in "Star Wars" anthology movie "Rogue One", Daily Mail reports.
Cushing, who died in 1994 at the age of 81, is being brought back to life for the upcoming movie with the help of sophisticated computer technology.

I've heard that it was to tonally dark and more like a straight up war movie. Batman v Superman should be a good cautionary tale about taking that tack to far. Also, reshoots are by no means uncommon and TFA did them as well.

Ironically, this was what they talked about for this movie from the get-go and why I was so excited for it. Nothing wrong with making a more "serious" Star Wars for one of the anthology movies. Though I get why Disney doesn't want that -- no toy tie-ins etc.

So the movie isn't testing well... who isn't it testing well with? 12-13 year old kids that may not have seen the originals? A bunch of 21 year olds who have the attention span of 2.1 year olds? Episode 1 was a steaming turd but likely tested very well with the 5 year old audience it was intended for.

We've already seen episode IV twice, do these test audience members want this side story to be yet another rehash of the same old? It's not intended to be the same as the other Star Wars so if that's all people expect then they might as well just scrap the whole thing and re-release 4-5-6 with an additional 30 seconds of footage.

In the same vein ANH opened with a bunch of people getting gunned down on a starship and it's captain strangled. I'm sure there is a fine line to be walked between a Zack Snyder style film that is so dark and depressing that you shouldn't be near sharp objects for a while and the tonal goals for the new SW films and their spinoffs.

I'll reserve judgement until I see it.

Yeap -- understood and agreed 100%. I do recall that in TFA when the blood was smeared on the helmet it seemed very unlike Star Wars to show such a thing. I WAS FINE WITH IT. I LOVED it. I so hoped and prayed that Rogue One was going to be gritty and dirty and "violent" (within reason).

the Rogue One crew estimates that they are reshooting roughly 40 percent of the movie. They will be working six days a week for a period of eight weeks, and 32 sets have been built for this phase of the production.

On the positive side, the rumor that they may try to squeeze in the new Han Solo for a cameo seems now to be a lock given the reshoot amount.
