Roland Garros- The French Open

This my all time favorite sporting event, I used to skip school as a kid to stay put in front of the TV for hours cheering for my idols.
Now I don't really have any idols but I still enjoy this two weeks very much. Always great tennis at Roland Garros.
We all know Nadal won it the last four years, I don't really like the guy, but he has earned all the respect from me (just another tennis player and fan). I don't like his style mainly, but he is a nice guy from all interview and things I have seen(yeah I pay for the Tennis Channel).
Now to make it 5 in row is ... I don't know, that's why I don't think it is not going to happen... who cares what McEnroe thinks. Federer is a married man now and expected be a father (I don't know how this is going to help) and has momentum from the recent win against Nadal... so I can't not mention Federer.
And if I am going to predict an unheard of guy to make the final, I am going to say Gulbis from Latvia... this guy has game.

It is going to be exciting 2 weeks for me.

Please share your thoughts on the tournament with me.

I just want see Federer return to form. When he is playing at 90% or above it's like the game was invented just for him. After making the game look effortless, seehing his current play is just depressing.

I'm not a huge fan of the French. Any grandslam is awesome, but I think the slower court levels the game too much where some people can play a foot behind the baseline and play defense all day.

I think without a doubt one of the top 4 will win (Nadal, Fed, Djok, or Murray). They're just too much better than the rest not to. I'm guessing another Nadal vs. Fed final with Nadal coming out on top. He's proven so many times that he is the best on this surface that to bet against him would be nuts.

Exactly my point. Much of his success comes from how much ground he covers and how quickly he covers it. Its awesome to watch (not to mention he's almost immune to pressure), but his knees and other joints are going to get pummeled from the long wta seasons on hardcourt.

Hahaha .. I cannot stand watching women's tennis period. The grunting is something else too ... but I give credits to Serena for talking smack about the world number 1 Dinara Safina. I quote "Anybody on the women's tour can be number, but she is because that the number next to her name" ... she is always talking shit, and yet she can prolly own any one of them blondies on the tour.

Men's tour is the ATP. Women's tour is the WTA. Unless you're saying Rafa is a girl.

It's clay, much softer on the knees. When you play on hard courts and run like Nadal.. the knees will suffer, no doubt.

He is working on that part of his game for sure, he has shorter swing on the forehand side now which less swing preparation time... buys his 1/4 of a second or something each swing. He is also playing more double and adopting finishing point quicker at the net to save energy.
But I think that heavy top spin will still give a lot of guys trouble, heck Federer loses because of that heavy top spin...Federer slice must be perfect to keep the ball low on Nadal's side, because other wise you be running all over the court to get crushed with that forehand going over your head.

I prefer the atmosphere and history of Wimbledon, but I really enjoy the actual play of Tennnis on the clay surface, there is just something about it that appeals to me a little more.

Rafa has the weirdest/awkward swing, it looks around his head, it gives it the kick but it's amazing how fast he can recover from such 'long' swing ...
