I have both a President and a Submariner (in all SS). They are worth the money if you can stand the price!

I have seen a couple of excellent knockoffs that friends of mine have picked up in New York. They look pretty real until you hold it in your hand and feel that they weigh nothing.

BTW - if you are considering a Rolex purchase I would suggest looking at the used market. I picked up the President five year ago for $7,200 when a new one cost $15,000. I couldn't even tell that the watch had ever been out of the box . . .

You can easily tell whats the differences, the real one...the SECOND hand moves continuously while the fake one stops and goes.

You might want to think again. When I was in HKfew months ago, I have seen fake Daytona that's identical to mine. It cost about $500, but still cheap money compare to the real one.

I purchased a pearl necklace from Overstock and then took it to a jeweler for an appraisal. His estimate was 3-4X what I paid.

I said from far away. or just show it to some one for a few seconds. SOme people don't stand and stare at. I know if you stare at it you can tell its fake immediately. The second hand "ticking" is one way.

Plus I've never been a watch person. I might win 100 million dollars and I won't pay more than 50 bucks for a watch. Some reason I don't like them.

I'd rather send 5k on a tv or something. Atleast you spend more time looking at the TV in one day than glancing down at your watch. Well atleast I watch tv more than I check the time.

Any piece of jewelery you take to an appraiser will appraise for a ton more than you paid. It's like MSRP on a car, it's a made up amount of money that nobody really pays that much for it.

Then they would be lying now would they. It bad when it gets to your death. Obviously they people aren't stupid to make up a figure. Especially if the decease it bordering whether or not they have to pay any estate taxes. Or even if they do how much.

you think the IRS would be happy if the appraiser appraised jewelry or anything for less than its value. They(IRS) could be losing lots of money. Making up a figure isn't a smart thing to do for the appraiser.

jewelry, collectables and a few other items that can't get a fair market value(home, car, land) have to be appraised. Although most people don't even come close to having to worry about value of their estate.

Its amazing how much money people will spend to know what time it is.

But if you want to tell people you have money by wearing a rolex, isn't it just cheaper to say "I have money."?

It just like people spending money on upgrading PC. However, a Rolex retains its value quite good, not like your CPU, graphic cards and so on.

First of all, you dont know me, so dont act like you do. Second, I dont even have a car or a P4 3.0Ghz, I have a AMD 1.7 XP, and I have a 19" Dell CRT, which I bought 2 years ago. Even if I have all the PC stuff, which costs < 1000 not compared to a rolex, which goes for 5,000 to 20,000.

That's why I said BEFORE you buy it. First of all, I know you don't have that expensive car, P4, 19" LCD yet, so I DO know more about you than you realize. Second, Rolex costs quite a bit, but you do not have to upgrade it every 2 years. BTW, if you ever decide to buy a house, which will cost alot more than $20000, go feed the homeless first.
PS. I can't tell you who I am, I am just the sin men.
