Goto totalwar.com. goto the rome 2 forums. There is literally an apology from some higher up exec from sega/ca for releasing broken game. Its stickied at the top of the thread. I doubt its just a few people. Like I said even after updating my drivers, updating and optimizing my whole pc and I can't get it to run for more than 30 minutes without a crash. It has gotten WORSE with patching for me and again looking at the forums I'm not alone in this. They straight up released a buggy broken game.

I'm not dismissing your problems, there is a segment of the community that is having them. They are however not the "majority" as asserted above. There are also a lot of issues completely not related to the game that could be causing you to have such a high degrees of technical problems to include any number of drivers your rig is currently running. While PC gaming is much easier and welcoming than it used to be there are still issues with drivers released by Nvidia and AMD that can cause all sorts of compatibility problems with particular programs depending on the card and driver version used. Many of us here can and will help you if you want it. If the intent though is simply a ton of bitching well then I guess we can simply keep discussing it.

Even with Patch 2.0 I had an AI army besiege me without attacking the gate for 40 minutes. Lets hope they fix this.

I also don't understand when you research siege tech, the enemy can only last two or even only one turn, yet you can't even build siege equipment fast enough to take them out in one turn. So you're force to have an open field battle with that tech branch fully researched. Not sure if this was fully intended but it takes a lot of fun out of siege attacks.

Me too. Well done. I think for me I will have total conquest in 1984 a.d.

I have now found out agents are useful. Previously I thought them expensive folly with no true purpose. The agents cost so much to recruit and then each action cost so much money.
However I found that spies are excellent at protecting your general and all spies will get attached to an army as soon as they are available to me. Working with the army you get additional buffs like increased movement and stuff. With generals living longer they can gain many additional abilities.
Diplomats make great tax collectors by putting them into admin mode. I stick them on a province to increase my cash and help maintain stability.
The champions are the best to use for assassinations if needed. The abilities they get also help with province income and unrest.

Getting beyond annoyed that after 3 patches and a couple fixes on my end still results in the game being essentially broken. I can't fight battles without the game crashing so hard that I have to hard reboot my PC. So 50% of what makes up the game is unplayable at this point.

At this point I'm wondering if I can file some sort of grievance with CA or steam or even the BBB. It has been almost 4 weeks and a quick check if the totalwar boards reveals that again I'm not alone in this.

Thanks for that tip, it would have been good to have these champions on the battlefield like in the first Total war game where you could recruit elite heroes that could fight whole units on their own.

I cannot work out how to get client states paying their tribute. They dont pay anything each turn.

Same here. I just started a new Macedon campaign on Hard and discovered just how strong a Pikemen heavy army can be. I've had 1 unit of Thorax Pikemen rack up 850 kills in a battle against Athens. I think I may actually see this one through to the end.

Game works fine now technically speaking. My experience with whenever I experience CTD bugs so random, I can never count on a game patch to fix it. It is either Windows OS, driver, or some third party program running inconspicuously in the background that causes it. Sure, you can say that every other game works great, but not every game is programmed the same way.

As far as fixing the AI, I just had to sit through a 10 min siege because the AI would not attack outside my walls. Must be nice to attack a city, just sit there , then lose with no losses. Or how the AI seems increasingly good at besieging a settlement with only a general unit, and to only lose 3 units out of the 7 that attacks. This would all be forgiven if they added a special attack that enabled my units to pull down their pants and moon the opposition from the city gates.


Believe it or not, it has gotten better though.

And if you want to make that even more significant, consider that only 71.3% of people have made it past TWENTY turns in the game.


So there are many people like me who have made repeated valiant efforts to play the game only to get foiled to the point of just quitting. I haven't touched the game in 3 days and I've been off work all 3 days. I cannot fight battles without an immediate CTD. Hell sometimes I can't even get the game to finish loading my save game without a CTD. It is pathetic.

NVIDIA GTX 285, with the latest NVIDIA drivers 327.23.

I've got the setting turned down to what the game considers appropriate, I know I need a new video card(rest of my system is halfway decent still) but that shouldn't have such a profound effect on my ability to play.

I've captured about 65 and I've played 56 hours! Granted the longer you go the easier it is to steamroll the rest, but it will probably take me 100+ hours to do a single campaign. That's ridiculous. Even a game of Civ 5 on a ultra sized map takes only about 25-30 hrs.

Fair enough point I suppose, it is hard tp argue with the other points...not even putting ten hours into a game is a bit hard to spin as positive. Ditto with getting 20 turns into a campaign.


I want to love this game I've played nearly 1000 hours of the original and put 700 hours EACH in Empire, Medieval 2 and Napoleon Total War. Every Shogun 2 which I didnt like as much has 300 hours of play time...this is just so brutally frustrating.

Trauma, what are your specs? There must be some conflict somewhere in your config ? I have 60 hours in and one crash , just trying to help that's all.

I'm pretty sure its my NVIDIA card. Seems many people with older nvidia cards having similar issues.

But GTX 285 8 gigs of ram windows 8 intel quad OCed to 3.2. Nothing fancy or outrageous. Everything and I mean everything is up to date driver wise.

You can try rolling back to the last driver that was released for the 285. I'm on my phone so searching is limited for me, but I tried to google stable 285 drivers and got stuff like the 258.96 release. It's worth a try, NVIDIA has issues with older card support in newer drivers at times.

I only just clocked the 100hrs game-play achievement last night and I consider I play too much. I got the game the day after release and it was only in the first stage before the hastily implemented patch that I suffered CTD.
