Not sure if it was mentioned here already but a bill introduced in Oklahoma wants to ban teaching anything that is contrary to a student's strongly held religious beliefs. Presumably this would outlaw the teaching of evolution.

As per usual it is enforced by a Texas style bounty mechanism.
What if we are members of this religion?

These kinds of laws are a disaster waiting to happen. It amazes me that folks are good with this or feel this is an appropriate approach to education.
It's a disaster on so many levels, first as a matter of public education because now you can't teach that Jesus didn't ride a dinosaur.

As a matter of law this is also a disaster as again SCOTUS's failure to promptly invalidate Texas' law as an end run around the courts has unleashed a flood of similar legislation. The goal here is the same as in Texas - it wasn't to outlaw abortion outright, it was to make people so afraid of personal financial ruin that they wouldn't even try one to begin with.

I don't understand why you wouldn't just send your kid to a religious school at that point?

Sadly, I do understand, it's actually just another building block for their theocratic fascist state

If Democrats had any balls they would immediately make the following illegal in public schools around the country
Ban the discussion of ANY religion in public schools
Ban any books that mention any kind of God or higher power in public schools.
Create a law making racism illegal in public schools. Set up a system where students can turn in other students and or school staff.

Set up the same system for turning people in. This would eventually make it's way back to SCOTUS and maybe they can admit to be taken for fools and political hacks.

Gonna be hot when some of those kids reach higher education having no idea about a lot of things. Some kid is gonna sue Yale because he flunked Biology 101.

I mean the way that SCOTUS is now they are poised to make it mandatory for the state to fund religious schools with public money so I doubt any of that would survive. If anything they would probably go the other way and make it possible for states to mandate religious instruction in public schools again. The Supreme Court has gone so far off the deep end when it comes to religion I doubt people from 20-30 years ago would even recognize it as the same constitution.

This is what happens when the court has a significant number of Catholics. Catholics make up 23% of population but 67% (6 of 9) of SCOTUS.

It's interesting that DeSantis wants to ban anything that might cause white discomfort, and also won't condemn Nazis. I feel like there's some kind of subtle message to be found there, possibly.

That's why DeSantis is as evil as Trump but smarter. He set the precedent of not commenting on Nazi's with the claim of not wanting to elevate them. This way when the pro-Trump Nazi brigade marches through town he can remain silent.

Meanwhile this same guy felt the need to create laws against peaceful protests because they were BLM. His law even allows peaceful protestors to be run down with cars and Florida won't prosecute.

You should be more clear to show that you understand the difference. See, the guy with secret reasons needs to be more precise.

I didn't say I would. You're response to factual teaching of history was to bring it up. Seems like a red herring on your part. "see, black people did it too!"

btw, wasn't part of any school curriculum I was part of. So it was already left out.

Why would anyone leave that out? It isn't a Red Herring. It is called a fact.

Still not a big deal, @pcgeek11? Not just this incident but others like it all over the country where you response has been "no big deal" or "states are free to operate as they see fit"

This is entirely different than the state of VA banning CRT when they don't even teach CRT (as you yourself agreed that they didn't). That is what I said was no big deal. It is like outlawing Bigfoot when he don't even exist.

I do not agree with the laws above in OK and NH.

You just injected your bias into it. Fenixgoon made no mention of race or part of a plan, just that it was integral to the country from the get go. That appears to be factual, as it's the way it went.

No, I only stated the facts that in the beginning they were only using white bonded indentured servants. Later they started buying black slaves.

BIG Difference between the Indentured Servants and the Slaves.

Depends on how it's used. That was obvious from my post. As I said, it has already been left out. Like it or not, schools can't teach every detail of history. So it's more likely students of history in college get these tidbits that didn't really have any affect on bigger events. I don't believe you're stupid enough to not suss this out.

Why leave it out of your synopsis then?

Now that is insanity.

The GOP has abandoned reason. It's all culture war.

Yes it is insane. Not sure it’s just a culture war. Since the 1970’s there has been an assault on education. In the 2000’s they extended the assault to include facts. For the entire pandemic it’s been an assault on science. Why stop there? This all seems to reflect the desire to get the US to become a Christian fundamentalist nation. Religious fundamentalists do not stop until they get the fascist religious state they desire.

Remember when the right was complaining about sharia law happening in the US? I’m guessing it was more projection from them.
