I really hope Gillum sends that a-hole’s campaign HQ fried chicken, watermelon and grape soda when Gillum wins.

Why is calling a person, of any color, a monkey an insult to liberals? I makes no sense at all, unless one remembers what hypocrites Liberals/Democrats are.

I wonder if any of you see this as I do. So, do any of you understand?
history, stupid

My next prediction, DeSantis or a surrogate will look for an opportunity to use the word niggardly.

Of course his campaign will say "its a real word and you guys are being too PC.

DSF will be right here backing him up

Other words used in the context of Obama that I'm sure DSF will claim not racist.

tar baby
watermelon jokes
birtherism
picture of Michelle Obama as a gorilla

Meanwhile the denial of dog whistles created and used to this day by Republicans continues.

"Niggardly" is totally unrelated to the "n word." The n word has its root in the Spanish/Portugese word "negro." Niggardly is from old English, originally meaning someone who fusses over trivial matters.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Controversies_about_the_word_"niggardly"

Being stingy isn't even a stereotype of blacks, so far as I know. It is, however, part of an anti-Semitic stereotype about Jews.

I personally wouldn't use it because I don't want people to misunderstand based on a coincidental similarity in the word but the word has no actual racist pedigree AFAIK.

I wasn't sure what to make of the comment. Thought I would give him a pass, but two things struck out. 1.) In the same comment he called Gillum articulate. When have you heard any other politician call a white man/woman articulate and 2.) He is really smart. Yale/ Harvard Law school grad. He should know better than to use the term "Monkey this Up". Definitely a dog whistle.

You did qualify it & that is exactly why it should not be used, so I’ll assume you agree a Politician should not use that word.
If you don’t agree, send an email to your HR director using that word then check back in and give an update in 2 weeks.

Can’t believe we’re even having this conversation.

Edit: something similar happened a few months back and I can’t remember what. Common saying that people decided to get offended over, anybody remember what it was...? Thread on here about it too

I did find Amused saying "calling a spade a spade" is a racist saying

Yeah, it's a bad idea to use the word because it can be misconstrued as racist. I was just pointing out that there is nothing racist about the word or its history. It's in effect being perma-banned for sounding like a racist word.

Historical claims of 3/5'ths of a person, related to monkeys and the overwhelming usage of the term monkey to describe black people is why it's an insult to EVERYONE.

Are you a teenybopper or something who is completely unaware of this praticise? Or are you just playing stupid because you think that helps?

You want to know how you sound to me when I read your reply?

"Why is dem dere fine white folks who are a bit misled worried about the negroes and us calling them monkeys"

That's it.
It is quite obvious you have no idea what the 3/5 thing is about. Pleas do some studying.

As to the monkey thing...Most Liberals/Democrats are atheists and believe in the theories of Darwin, i.e., humans all descended from the apes.

LOL!

So it is impossible to insult a person by saying they are an ape if you happen to be a Liberal.

As to the 3/5 thing....the North or anti slave states did not want to count the black slaves at all. The south slave states wanted to count all of them as part of the population. Just the opposite of what those think that do not know their history.

Sad.

LOL!

Just because the ignorant think something is what it isn't, does not make it so.

Is it racist to say the the Congress needs to be niggardly with the people's money?

Oh, yes, do look it up.....LOL!

Holy straw man, Batman!

Niggardly and the n-word don't have similar etymologies.

So a republican who panders to the Trump base just happened to pick then to avoid using any number of appropriate verbs, opting instead for a term often used in racist terminology, and it was just an innocent yet poor choice of words?

Seems hard to believe.

Hopefully Gillum sticks to the real issues and does not get as easily distracted by a poor choice of phrase.

I have used this phrase many times in my life and never even once was there a Black person involved. Even if this guy purposely used the phrase to point out that his opponent was Black, running on "He's Racist!" won't win an Election. Trump being President is proof of that.

Yes, I know, but it sounds racist, therefore it must be racist. A city councilman aid, in Washington, D.C., was fired for using that word and he used it in context correctly

OTOH, it kinda makes sense that they wouldn't want the South to have equal representation in Congress for persons the Southern states denied basic freedoms to, dontcha think? IOW, it wasn't racism, it was the penalty the North assessed on the South for their racism.

It was clearly a calculated Trumpist move for publicity.

Or you're just yet another amoral Trumpist whose excuse for everything is that 2 wrongs must make a right.

Admit it: you had to Google etymology.

I think we should all be able to agree that the best way to kick off a general election campaign is with free nationwide publicity courtesy of the media, right?

Obviously racist statement. Not really sure why people would doubt it.
The term monkey in politics is basically only ever applied to black politicians and its appalling.
