I heard of Ron Paul, a Representative from Texas, a few years back during the 2008 elections. Since he was a Republican, I didn't pay very much attention to him (was a Democrat). But as the years have passed, I find myself leaning Libertarian. I began to hear more about Ron Paul's platform and his debating prowess. Today, I honestly think he's the best candidate for the presidency.

Who's with me?

edit: read about his positions before you start attacking.

I'm with you I've been a supporter (I contributed to his 08 campaign) since 2007. I became a libertarian in 2006 (I had thought Thomas Jefferson was the most libertarian president up until that time), but Dr. Paul has really taught me what liberty was all about.

I see only the calling of a Constitutional Convention to get money out of politics and return ownership of the air waves to the people. Government funded radio, internet, and TV that mandates open mic speech. and round robin open debate.
The government already controls the MSM. It may not fund it, but it regulates it. However, the internet is hopefully going to defeat the MSM.

It is not a tin foil hat conspiracy.

Its just a plain old conspiracy. The main stream media either ignores ron paul or jokes about him as if to assure people that he has no chance of winning.

Now, you have to ask yourself why.

Well, he's Crazy Uncle Paul.

Why is he crazy?

_______________

I'd like somebody to tell me this because as far as I can tell, the only way Ron Paul is crazy is because he talks about issues other candidates wont talk about. They are real issues and he speaks the truth... can't call him crazy if you're ignorant of what he speaks.

What was Mr Paul's best performance in any 2008 GOP Presidential Primary? What level of support do Mr Paul and or the Libertarians have in the US?

Is it possible the attention Mr Paul gets from the media reflects the actual support he has in the US?

Unfortunately it does not look like I will be able to vote in the Republican primaries here in Florida...but at this point he will definitely get my vote for president if he runs on a Republican or Independent ticket.

Siddhartha : I believe in 2008 he ran as a 3rd party. Which is an automatic sign you're not going to win because too many people have bought into the whole 2 party system.

As far as supporters go. They've done analysis on donations to Ron Paul vs other candidates. Other candidates are getting big corporation donations and very few smaller donations which are average people donation. Ron Paul has 50+% of donations as smaller amounts that indicate actual people donating to him.

With Rick Perry and Herman Cain type of guys, you really do have to wonder where their donations come from and what those bribes are buying.

He was the LP candidate in 1988, but in 2008 he ran as a Republican.

I remember reading something (check the Harry Browne archives on lewrockwell.com) by Harry Browne that the Federal government rather than the people were actually why the 3rd parties don't get much support. The FEC probably has something to do with it (for example, 3rd parties can't be in the debates), yet even the Constitution specifically prohibits the FEC.

I'm with you. The problem is that nobody in the media is going to support him. Both parties are kind of afraid of him. He would upset too many applecarts as president in their eyes I suppose. But damn, didn't our last prez run on the "change" platform? Ron Paul would definitely bring about change, and this time it would be the kind of change that would mean long term prosperity for the country.

Paul can never win because he doesn't buy into the concept that government funds and power are there to be used to give to cronies and contributors what they want.

I've never donated to a politician in my life. He gets a donation for me every time he has a money bomb. He consistently raises millions over night without courting the 1%

He is the real deal.
- Only veteran candidate, highest % active duty donations
- PHD
- Decades of experience
- Isn't in anyone's pocket
-Only candidate proposing significant spending CUTS..
- does not flip flop
- only candidate with a legitamate track record to prove a strong conviction in small government and REAL fiscal conservatism.

On paper he has no competition. Who is rigging this election then?

AKA he isn't corruptable and hasn't been compromised by taking giant checks from corps and banks! He could have easily sold out decades ago. The one reason why he should be voted for even if you don't agree with 100% of his views, you can't say anyone else has his track record.

Oh good! That means Ron Paul will stick to his guns and push to implement his horrible ideas no matter what!

No, he will try to implement the will of Ron Paul. Unfortunately the will of Ron Paul involves a lot of batshit crazy ideas. People try to ignore just how nutty he is because they find his sincerity and uncompromising nature appealing.

If he ever had to run a real campaign his opponent would bury him under a pile of his own batshit crazy ideas and he would lose in a Goldwateresque landslide.

Sacrilege. It can't ever be any deficiencies or unpopularity of "Dr" Paul or libertarianism. It must be a conspiracy. It has to be the media and/or the evil government. One or the other, if not both. After all, when people really have a chance to think about The Ideology, it's inevitable that they'll see its Divine Perfection and give "Dr." Paul 99% of the vote. But of course, we all know The Man can't let that happen.

Oh, and don't forget to buy gold!

To be honest, I have never donated to any politician...but I am seriously considering donating to Ron Paul. I don't agree with everything he says, but I do agree with the general concept that less government is generally better and that we need to fix our own problems before we try to fix the world's problems.
