These polls are Bill Shipp and Public Policy Polling - both liberal organizations - so if you're into conspiracy theories feel free to think progressives are pushing Paul because they don't think he can win - although evidently Iowans DO think he can win.

Personally I don't think Paul has a snowball's chance in hell, but I've been wrong before. (Last time right after I read "Dreams from my father" and thought "no way America elects this wackadoodle.") So your mileage may vary.

I have some major issues with Paul but also some areas of agreement, so if he's the Pubby nod I could vote for him. I prefer Romney, but I certainly couldn't justify my usual pattern of voting for the Libertarian candidate when a libertarian is running on the GOP platform.

Huckabee wasn't even on the radar before the last caucus and he took Iowa pretty easily. I have no doubt that Paul can and will do the same. I know many people, like me, that pretty much have said fuck it and are voting Paul. Although it really doesn't matter what happens here in Iowa, which I wish people would figure out. Not saying that people here shouldn't give a shit but please, Iowa never has and never will decide an election.

He's going to win unless the voting machines are rigged up the ass. The internet polls were no fluke.

I take issue with the prediction that Newt will win because he wasn't even registered in 2 states as of a week ago and because he only had $300k in the bank.

Romney won't win.

So who else would it be other than Dr. Paul?

Is someone manipulating these polls to give everyone a chance at second place or is this just happening naturally?

I think he has a decent chance to win Iowa, and a decent chance to win 2nd in NH.

Getting the nomination will be quite hard still and definitely an uphill battle.
Intrade has him about 9%, I'd say that's about right.

I would love to see him win Iowa just to throw a wrench in the works, but there is no way in hell he will be nominated. Still, if he won in Iowa we'd be tied with one primary caucus each between Paul (IA), Gingrich (SC) and Romney (NH) after the first few - that would be interesting indeed.

It's funny hearing people I know who laughed at Ron Paul over the years for being "crazy" now saying they're going to vote for him because he's the only Republican candidate that isn't shit.

I think that most people that have issues with him/his policies are concerned with his foreign policy ideas. Honestly, given the foreign policy (or lack thereof) that we have seen over the past three years, I think these people are growing more comfortable to a different, even if it is crazier, alternative. They are starting to see the benefits of isolationism.

I will fully admit to that. I still don't agree with his foreign and monetary policies.

Well, I was looking at those stats of how much people have in the bank, and some people are in debt, etc, and I read that the debt could be, money they paid out of pocket...

So gengrich might be able to spend a lot more money than he has as contributions so far.

True...but does this speak to the benefit of Dr. Paul, or to the ridiculousness of the other nominees?

I disagree with the man on just about everything, but there *is* something to be said for his "no bullshit" approach to the game.

I have to admire someone political who maintains his position on most any subject no matter who the audience is. I do, however, find some of his ideas too far from mine. Besides, even if nominated, realistically he couldn't find the votes to get elected.

Maybe the people just want an honest, consistent, and principled candidate for once?

Ron Paul's problem has never been that he's not honest, consistent or principled enough. The problem is that his views aren't that popular and he doesn't come across as Presidential. Maybe a total outside candidate with non-mainstream views can sweep the election, but Ron Paul's been around for quite a while and has consistently failed to get very far in the process.

I wonder though. There's something to be said for standing by your principles. But if you DO get elected, you have to be the President of the whole country. Refusing to compromise or be in any way politically flexible is not a good trait in a President, IMO.

Whats the issue? Dr. Paul is one man who believes in the constitution so whats to fear. To get his policies threw it has to pass threw the house than the Senate . What I would love to see Paul do is pull a W.Wilson and when congress goes home for Xmas Have 3 votes to get rid of federal reserve . That how it was brought in . If they fixed that loop hole than force it befor the so called supreme idiots.

Strange that that is what the Republican party seems to be running on these days.

Paul is in fact leading in Iowa. So ya its being manipulated by the media . A paul win is a big loss for the powers that be.
The only people who won't vote paul are the cowards who cry for change but really don't want it . Their scared thats a fact . They should be.

Honestly things are to the point where I wouldn't mind Ron Paul getting the white house just to shake things up a little. He'd only get so far with any of his more radical ideas, and hell it's not like the status quo is doing America any favors.
