These polls are Bill Shipp and Public Policy Polling - both liberal organizations - so if you're into conspiracy theories feel free to think progressives are pushing Paul because they don't think he can win - although evidently Iowans DO think he can win.

Personally I don't think Paul has a snowball's chance in hell, but I've been wrong before. (Last time right after I read "Dreams from my father" and thought "no way America elects this wackadoodle.") So your mileage may vary.
I have some major issues with Paul but also some areas of agreement, so if he's the Pubby nod I could vote for him. I prefer Romney, but I certainly couldn't justify my usual pattern of voting for the Libertarian candidate when a libertarian is running on the GOP platform.
