I need to remove current and blow in new roof insulation in my house.

Area: 1,425 Square FT. Currently it is filled with dirty looking cellulose - wool like material.

Can anyone advice in regards to what/who to use, costs, options and general comments?

Why remove any of it? Just add more. Do it yourself with the free home Depot insulation blower, or hire a contractor. Shouldn't cost more than a couple bucks per foot.

whats the point of removing whats there?

Well, it is ~50 years old. It shows mouse? droppings in it too. I'd rather get this out and replace with something new and hopefully more efficient.

If it's contaminated then it makes sense. At that point, do the whole job. Have the insulation vacuumed out, seal every crack and hole in the top plates to prevent air movement in the walls below, install baffles at the eve vents so the new insulation doesn't block them, then blow in whatever R value is recommended for your climate zone.
I'm not sure what the pricing for that work is. When I do it the entire roof structure is removed from the house in preparation for a second floor, so I rent the huge vacuum and have my crew suck it out.
