Rookie -- how do I turn off network logon password?

Just got my home PC's set up to network -- how do I turn off that logon password box when I boot. We fight a lot here, but I don't need a password.

If your using WIN 9x -start/settings/control panel/network/confiq tab/ -----in the "Primary Network Logon" dropdown, choose "Windows Logon"

OK, that works, but will it make anything else not work? Once I get the network actually running (the impetus for doing it is that we're finally getting cable internet here on our country dirt road out in the woods!), will that disable anything I need for that? I'll have the cable modem run into a router and out to the PC's.

The microsoft network logon is only there for logging into mapped drives or into a domain. Assuming you are using ICS on a workgroup, you will have no problems.

Er, um -- ICS? I'm a rookie.

My plan is to have the cable modem go first thing into the router, and 4 cables out to the individual PC's from there.

ICS = internet connection sharing. It's built into windows 98 SE / ME / 2000 and allows you to share one internet connection over a network.

Oh yeah, there are lots of sites out there which will help you get your network up and running.

OK -- I found a definition of ICS at TechWeb's Tech Encyclopedia, and it showed a schematic with the internet connection going first to one computer and then out from that computer to the rest. So it looks like the others' connections depend on the first computer being on and working correctly? Whereas, as I understand it for my own design, the router is first in line and the computers are all individually connected without relying on the first one to "pass the football". Do I have this right? and so, is my network going to want to be set up with ICS or not?

Sorry to be dense, if that's what's happening. Maybe I'm missing some piece of the puzzle.

Or you can do what I do and install TweakUI and have it automatically log you in...

I've had problems between ICS and the automatic log-on in Tweak UI. 80% of the time it doesn't work on the host machine (ICS installed). It works fine on the other machines on the network.
