Isn't there two versions of the Roomba? The normal like in this thread and the elite or pro, whatever its called?

You might be thinking of the "RoboSweep", which IS a POS. The Roomba is entirely different, and almost everyone who owns one raves about it. (Myself included).

There are actually 3 different Roomba models, the Roomba, The Roomba Pro, and the Roomba Pro Elite. A good place to find more info on the Roomba is at RoombaReview.com

Also, if you check the forums you'll find a few places where you can get a better deal on the Roomba...

These things suck. Takes like 20 minutes to vacuum a room that you could do yourself in 2 minutes and it makes crop circles.

We love ours. Got it from hsn.com for $156.xx after 25% off coupon in December. Ours came with the remote and 2 virtual wall units, but we don't use the remote. We have 2 dogs, and provided we make sure to clean the vacuum every time we use it, we have no problem with it getting clogged. It uses direct driven brushes, so they keep working well after the belt on a a belt driven vacuum would break from pet hair. And as for the complaint about how long it takes... So what? Start it before you go to bed or as you leave for the grocery store. It isn't that loud, and it does a good job of cleaning if it is used regularly. Really, how quickly can you vacuum your living room while you are out of the house? The roomba does what you can't. It won't compete with a regular vacuum if you only vacuum once or twice a month, but if you can vacuum a room every 3-5 days, it keeps things really clean, in my experience.

If he paid $250 at Sharper Image you got the pro elite version which is not the one Jokersmoker posted. This is just the standard version without a remote that is $199 at Sharper Image.

The Roomba isn't designed to vacuum quickly, it's designed to do the vacuuming for you. As a matter of fact, the new Roomba models actually move a bit SLOWER than the original model so that they can clean more thoroughly.

The fact is, if you ran ANY vacuum for an hour and a half a day your house would be cleaner than it is. It's just that most people aren't going to put that kind of time into vacuuming every day. Personally, I hardly ever used to vacuum, but now with the Roomba I run it every day when I get home from work.

yeah, I just checked.. it is the elite... i was at work and didn't have the box on hand..
