If you can back that up, it's fine. like with different genres and bands its fine but I hate it when ppl use all kinds as a catch all, no one likes every band out there.

I like rock, Jazz, Classical, reggae, some rap, folk, techno, dance. You name it I will most likely like it. and there are plenty of misic i didn't list.

And I think you handle is a good match to you.

Okay, lets say you were in charge of looking over resumes for a company.

applicant 1: operating systems: Windows all verions
applicant 2: operating systems: Windows 2000, XP, Vista, Server 2000, Server 2003, Server 2008, 7

Which one would you choose if you had to choose one?

Same principle applies, it's not the fact that he said all kinds its the fact that it's never a real answer, if he explained some more, it'd be better.

remember, these are all idiosyncrocies, nothing major

neither. I go for someone with more than MS certs, such as linux, solaris. quite a few servers don't run microsoft.

(If you don't like roommates, why the hell are you doing it. every one has idiosyncrocies and it's very likely you will never find anyone who you will like 100%)

I know, I actually had no choice for the 1st year. I am actually trying to work out some of these issues, though... See post above for realization

These are some of the idiosyncrocies that I hate, for me most of them can be observed in my roomate, who, in this post shall be called Tanny.

*Not Being Plain - you should have tastes in things with valid reasons behind why you like or dislike certain things. I'm not judgemental and will accept things that you like or dislike but if you like something simply because others like it, you fail. A short anecdote - When I first met Tanny, I asked him what kind of music he likes, his response "all kinds", wtf?

*Having opinions - express your thoughts, if i ask you something, the answer should not be "fine". Anecdote time - Whenever I ask Tanny anything about his preference ie whether he likes something, his response is always "fine".... that answer doesn't even fit the question, the answer should closely resemble a yes or a no...

*Walk right and stand up straight - Imo, having the ability to stand up straight and travel on two legs is one of the only things that separates us from all other animals. Be proud, chin up and shoulders back whenever possible. Tanny not only looks like a twig, but when walking, he slouches, looks down and wobbles. It has gotten to the point where I can't even look at him when he walks...
...

You sound like a douchebag. Maybe he doesn't like talking to you because you're a douchebag? Could that be it?

How did you come up with that conclusion with that quote? Okay, the walking thing might have seemed overboard... I agree, but what i mean is, he makes it awkward to walk with... horrible no? but notacible... And to any offended that I noticed this about my roomate, I apologize.

And he likes talking to me, he is a nice person, just not what I'm used to.

You just sound incredibly annoying. Maybe he doesn't feel like sharing his opinions with you. You're right, I don't know him, but I'm just picturing you as someone who doesn't take a hint.

I live with roommates now, and have for years in various places with various people. Some became good friends, but many were just warm bodies in the house/apartment to share the rent with. Sometimes people just don't want to be your "buddy," and if that's the case, just fuck off and leave him alone, instead of judging him to the umpteenth degree as you're doing here.

My .02

Okay, in an attempt to clear some of these prejudged notions, I'll clarify. I have been leaving him alone, he initiates most of the convos now. We live in extremely close quarters so anything that either of us does is conspicious to the other.

As for the judging, you might have a point there. The asterisks were values that I instilled within myself because I felt they were important. There would obviously be conflict as he is almost the exact oppsite of all these values. Just like how the gays were perceived to challange hetero's way of life, I am perceiving him in such a light. I actually realized this just now, with your use of the word judge.

Don't get me wrong, I don't like this one bit... but it helps that i made this realization.

Now I'd like to think that the world is filled with intrinsically good people. Should this not then, be a good time to apologize to me JohnJohn, for assuming things over a message board?

So you admitted I'm right, then want me to apologize?

Lets not get petty here, you were right about my judging not about my relationship with my roomate. you alreay replied to the message to challange my logic, what's a sorry gonna hurt?

sounds like the roommate hasn't fulled acculturated and that he still possess some qualities of a person raised in communist china. you're not racist-you're inter-racist.

So you blabber on and on about how it's important for someone to express his opinions, then whine and throw a tantrum when johnjohn320 expresses his? I think his initial assessment of your character may have been spot-on.

It's way too late to read the entire thread - from what I've read of the initial post and the OP's name, I'm inclined to think that your handle is very apropos.

Good way to start on ATOT though...28 posts in the last day or so, I'm sure they were all of the same quality.

Not wanting to participate in conversations over small things that could become debates does not mean a person doesn't hold an opinion. As for music I also like many different kinds of music as well.

Straight up remind him/ask him for money for the water.

You are not this young man's superior !!! This young man, FOB, probably has a huge pile of anxieties and worries as it is, it sounds like he's trying to be agreeable, to not offend.
In short, it sounds like this kid has manners. Leave him alone.

You sound like an asshole, OP.

The guy is FOB and you get mad at him for walking funny and saying that he likes "all kinds of music". Oh noes!

The only decent problem is the water thing, but you are equally to blame for continuing to buy water and not speak to him about the issue.

OP: You're also the sort who washes his feet and face 50x a day and must always walk an even number of steps per hour, right?

yeah pretty much. I think he may be trolling. He just described his room mate as sounding laid back, with an open taste in music. Who gives a shit? Did he think we were all going to rally around him and be like "YEEAH! Who likes music??? F your roomie man!"

And the choice of name doesn't help that much also.
