Roommate bill non-payment drama - advice?

Long story short. Four people in the house, one of whom has not paid his electric for six months (since he moved in). Adult male over 18, no children. All other utilities (gas heat) are included in the rent.

Are we legally (Boston, MA if that makes a difference) in the clear to cut the electric to his room? The breakers are in a locked room he does not have access to. If not is there *anything* we can do to pressure him into paying? Legally, of course.

Paper notice left on his door for the first five months, a hardcopy of the running total with copies of all six month's worth of bills sent registered to his place of work...he signed for the letter. He has acknowledged it but is just being a dick.

Yeah, he's on the lease. I really do not want to let the electric get cut off and screw over the tenant whose name it's under.

Not sure of your state but here in TX just do not accept any partial payment which without the money for the electric bill is just that... After 30 days you should be able to file to have him evicted and that will get his attention for sure...

Sit down, request immediate payment or a payment plan, and inform him that power to his room will be cut in one week if he does not comply, and his food in the fridge and freezer will be placed on the counter.

Is this really that difficult?
Punch him in the mouth and knock him off his feet. When he looks up at you with a confused look in his eye, tell him to pay his utilities or the next time you won't be so nice.

How devious is this guy? If you cut off his power, I would put a lock on all places where food sits. Otherwise you may get a little extra in your mayo or something.

I would check with the landlord and see what is legally available to you to get him off the lease.

If the guy is a dick enough to totally blow off all his roommates about a bill... he is going to want to get back at everyone.
