Hello all. I was taking off my HIS Arctic Cooler just moment ago, and well took some RAM with it. I'm assuming that its not repairable. Lol. I know never to do that again. I know your not suppose to remove this type off pad, but some caps broke off and i was going to attempt to fix it. Anyone know if the GC will work without two RAM modules???
Anyway, looks like I have something to add to the FS thread.

Um, no, it's not repairable, and it's not likely to work without two RAM chips. You may be able to talk HIS into taking the card back and "repairing it" for less than the price of a new card, but I doubt it. Depending on whether the caps broke off under normal usage, you may be able to convince HIS that it's partly their fault.

I've heard of people clamping ram chips in place. As long as all the ball grid array connections make contact, the chip may still work. Try it, you have nothing to loose at this point.

Lol. I was thinking of trying it. Except for the fact that some off the ball grid array has come out of the RAM chip.
I dont know if HIS will repair it though. It was my fault the caps came off. Plus its time (and an excuse!) to upgrade anyway. I could start to feel the GC show its age a lot. Any reccomendations??? I was thinking of a HIS X1950pro IceQ3 Turbo. I live in Australia which would probably make my repair attempt even harder.

It took me over 3 months to do a a completely legit RMA with HISTech... The chances of this plan working are slim to none IMO. HISTech sucks.

This is the truth, when my X1900XTX IceQ3 crapped out back in November '06 I learned the hard way... it turns out that most HIS RMA's are handled by the vender which luckily for me was Newegg or I would likely have waited 3 months myself.
