We can talk about generalities when talking about generations. When we call the ww2 generation the greatest generation we dont mean to say every individual was great. You know this.
A) the greatest generation is an American affectation.
B) Most of those folks protesting against Vietnam, fighting for women's' right's, fighting for gay rights, for unions and so on back in the late 60s and the 70s were boomers. Personally, I suspect that I've probably done more organizing, protesting, and *voting* throughout out my 'boomer' life than most of the folks that participate here and I certainly do not see myself as unusual for my generation.
C) It's a lazy accusation that doesn't differentiate between individuals and groups in that age cohort or acknowledge the many and often bloody conflicts between them. Bonus: everyone younger gets an automatic absolution.

B) Those people fought for those things because it had a direct effect on their selfish little minds. If you look at the big topics of every decade it has been something to benefit the baby boomer generation. Everything from free and low cost college to prescription drug "donut" and having young healthy people get healthcare to make it cheaper for boomers.
C) Its not lazy. There is a ton written about this by people who have more time to go into it then me.
