  • We have a threat coming up: XtremeSystems. They're still about 111 days away, but their gaining really fast. I'd guess that probably a month (if at all) is more accurate.
  • We had 65 active members (63.11%) yesterday.
  • Congrats to SeanD and 64ninjas!! :wine:
  • If you still have some of these "stuck at 1%" WUs, please make sure to read the following thread BEFORE you abort these WUs to help get rid of that problem once and for all: Official 1% thread

Thanks for the stats!

:|Well today I've stopped 4 WU that were stuck at 1%. I've lost over 35 hours on them. Needless to say I'm a bit pissed. :|:disgust:

Hey Reaper, I understand that you're pissed. Did you take a look at the official 1% stuck thread? They really need the help of people with 1% stuck WUs to solve the problem.

Congrats on the milestones SeanD and 64ninjas

Sorry to hear about the stuckage Reaper. I had read some of those were lurking around again. If it happens again, the best thing would be follow that thread BMC pointed out and lend in solving it. But if you don't have the time for that, the easiest way to clear one is to just stop and re-start BOINC. It will start again with a new seed. I don't blame the frustration, but I've always just treated stuff like that as 'part of it all' and it helps me not freak out about it.

Thanks for the stats tonight BMC

-Sid

edit: I think it was JC asking yesterday about 'wierd' progress increments he saw on a Work Unit. If it helps, I have one now as well (reporting 77.5% complete). If I recall correctly, shorter checkpoints was a request of some users so they wouldn't loose so much progress if they had to re-start their computer or BOINC. No worries

Hmm. No idea what the hell happened with my stats. Was averaging aroudn 700, then the other day had 2100, then dropped to 500 and then to 300. what the hell is going on?

I've noticed on my laptop the last few WUs I've done have taken 8+ hours each. Do I get more credits when I get these gigantic things to crunch? hmm.

I would say you have some machines you need to check on

PS: Yes Franky, you do get points based on time spent and will get large rewards when you complete large WUs

My machines are at home, so I am not usually around to check on them. When a box gets one of those WUs, will it ever finish it?

No, it won't. You either have to abort the WU by hand or restart BOINC. Then it'll finish, too.

There's also a very last fail safe method, called "maximum CPU time exceeded" but I don't know when it kicks in. Could be after 24 hours or 100, I don't know. Sorry.

EDIT:

from the BOINC Wiki:

A BOINC Work Unit has an estimated number of Floating Point Operations per Second assigned to it and a bound maximum number of floating point operations that the boinc client will allow it to use.
...
The client translates this maximum number of FLOPS into a maximum CPU time. When this CPU time is exceeded, BOINC stops the Application and returns the result with a "Maximum CPU time exceeded" message.

So that metho will kick in after a predefined value that probably only the Rosetta guys know. I remember that the bad 203 batch WUs eventually produced that error after a couple of days ...

I've had several abort because they exceeded the max... my favorite part is bolded... why no credit for these?

Well, I have them set to kep 10 days of cached info just in case our proxy server goes down or something like that, but they are set that the network is always available so I'm not sure if it should be reporting every time it finishes one or what.

I'll make the rounds and see what's going on.

Ah well. Maybe I'll have a 10k day coming up soon. heh.

The good news is that Rosetta IS awarding credit to people who get caught in this situation. (After the fact)

There has already been a round of this for the 205 units that timed out and it will continue to be done according to the Rosetta developers.

I think this is amazing. most projects do not offer this kind of care for us stats junkies!

so  and kudos to them (another reason Rosey gets ALL my cycles)

I updated last night with like 10 WU's to turn in. I got zero points.

EDIT: Stats page says I have more points than my BOINC client says...

When you update your client the total it gives you doesn't include the units you just uploaded from it.

I just checked my computers and they all had Uploaded their results, but they ahdn't Reported the results. I'm not sure what the difference is or why it would only do the first part.

I just manually did an Update and they all reported just fine. I checked the Messages window and they all had information that they had uplaoded the results and such, but they were just sitting there in the "Ready to Report" status.

hmmm.

We'll see what my numbers look like tomorrow. Maybe I'll just have to check them every week.

You don't get the points for them until they are reported. I believe your q setting of 10 days has something to do with them not reporting.

I am wondering why sometimes all mine report and other times they sit full, all wu's crunched and no new work. I end up trying to remember to walk to each computer every day and manually check them.

I have them set to "run always" and "network always available"

Is there something I am missing?
