Hi, and thanks!

I could probably make a separate thread for this but there's already enough clutter in the forums.

Anyway, I currently have a Sempron64 2600+ (running at 2.0Ghz), an Athlon XP 2200+, a Celeron 2Ghz, and a dual Xeon 3.0Ghz running BOINC and will probably add a LOT more (as many as 20 workstations - mostly Intel P4's in the 2-3.5Ghz range) in the next week or two if the client plays nice with the custom software running on the duallie and I can make sure it won't interfere with the same sofware running on the workstations.

A pushed network install would be nice if I can find instructions to do it so I don't have to go out and manually install the client on each computer, so I'd appreciate any suggestions you can give in this regard.

I have read through the R@H FAQ linked in the original post but I have a couple of questions.

I am running the truXoft version of the BOINC client (which almost doubled the benchmark results on my three home machines compared to the default client) and have the client set to download 2 days' worth of work at a time. Even with the optimized client it seems like my computers are getting far less points per day than most other results I've seen. Is there anything I can do to tweak the settings on my computers to be more efficient?

Several of the office machines that I would like to install the client on don't have a large amount of RAM (most are 256MB or higher but their custom office software uses a pretty good chunk of memory. On some of these machines I will have to set them to only run when the computer is idle so that the client doesn't take resources away from the actual work the users are doing while the are working. Since I will probably only have these clients running Rosetta@home and no other projects (at least for now) so there won't be any application switching, is it safe to disable the "Leave in memory" option so that the client gives the ~50MB of RAM it uses back to Windows when it is not actually running? If not, this could significantly impact the number of computers I can run the client on.

Edit: Forgot to mention that the Sempron 64 is splitting time with the Ralph@home test project as well, but most of its time is being spent on Rosetta since Ralph doesn't have much work to do.

Hi Fardringle, haven't seen you since FaD! Glad to have you on board :beer:

As far as the Truxoft client, I personally only had good results with it on my A64s...my XPs get better benches with the regular ('unoptimized') client.

I don't recall the exact numbers so these are just rough estimates from what I remember (I have them written down at home), but my Sempron64 went from roughly 1900/5000 to 2200/9000, the Celeron 2Ghz went from 1400/3500 to 1700/5000, and the XP2200 went from 1700/4300 to 2000/8000 when I put the truXoft client on those three machines. The duallie Xeon also jumped from about 1600/4000 to 1800/5500 with the truXoft client. The Xeon server didn't get nearly as much of an improvement as the other machines did, but every little bit helps.

LOL @ Peter: That's Fardringle with the new PCs, not me! He only has the same cow icon Peter. Now, how much :beer: did you get in that hotel suite???

@Fardringle

In my experience, it is NOT save to not leave the app in memory. But There was a thread about that a while ago on the Rosey forums. If you set that to yes, the app will only stay in the virtual memory, not in actual RAM, at least that's what they said. I know, taskmanager shows it differently, but then again, the virtual mem size of the app is always much larger than the memory footprint. These are probs worked on with RALPH, especially addressing that memory problem. For now, I strongly suggest you leave it to YES or you might experience problems with these machines. That's also the reason why Rosey wants all RALPH testers to set it to NO, so they can really test their new fixes.

As far as the pushed network install is concerned, I'd ask amdxborg, he should know how to do it, with his armada of PCs.

Well, I went ahead and put BOINC/Rosetta on two more P4 3.0GHz machines at the office. I'll let these two additional machines (that are actually being used for work) and see if the people who use the computers notice any problems with the production software they use. If not, I'll start pushing Rosetta out to the rest of the systems there.
