because the next step up costs exponentially more. reason being cat5 wont play with 10gbs, therefore requiring all new cabling for people to buy.

so, for now, since 10gbs is out of the mainstream market, the top tier speed is 1gb. to maximize profits, you sell your best performers for a higher price.

sort of same reason blurays still costs a crap ton when they dont cost much more then a dvd to make.
