Original deal expired, but still available for $19 shipped, only $2 more.

+++++++++++++++++

Rosewill RCX-Z775-LX 92mm Ball CPU Cooler
$16.99
no rebates
free shipping with code EMCABCKAD (expires 2/4/08)

This is similar to the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7, so a decent deal for those who are disappointed that the Freezer is no longer regular priced at under $20.

I suspect Rosewill/Newegg heatsinks are rebranded Akasas. I've seen several Rosewill HSFs that are dead ringers for Akasa HSFs (and it's interesting that there isn't a single product with the Akasa brand sold on Newegg). An example would be the Rosewill RCX-Z4 and the Akasa EVO 120.

Anyways, in this case, it looks to be the Akasa AK-965. Looks like a sweet heatsink - somewhere between the Scythe Mine and the Zerotherm butterfly.

Great, another impulse buy to go along with the ip35-e that just re-appeared on newegg.

Actually ,Thanks for posting ,

I was searching around for info on it and wasn't finding much.

Hey, thanks for that info! I actually bought that Rosewill RCX-Z4, but unfortunately it didn't fit my intended setup.

Um...bump? How much better will this be as compared to the stock HSF? My idle temps. with the stock HSF are 45C and load temps are 55-60C. What drop can i expect?

Check the link I posted above for the Akasa AK-965. It has pretty comprehensive performance and noise measurements. The chart on the last page compares its performance to numerous other HSFs, including the Conroe stock one.

Cliff notes:
- At low fan speed, it beats out the stock cooler by a fair amount, cooling wise. It's also quieter.
- At high fan speed, its cooling performance places it between the Scythe Mine and the Zerotherm BTF90, as I mentioned before. It's louder than the stock HSF in this case, but it's still quieter than many other aftermarket HSFs with the fan running at full tilt.

From the review: "When operated with its fan at full speed the Akasa AK-965 heatsink is a great performer. In fact, it places within the top 10 positions in the reference list above, while generating less than 50 dBA noise! Akasa have built a great Intel LGA775 heatsink here, so if you're shopping around for a new Core 2 Duo heatsink be sure to include the AK-965 on your short list of choices."

Sounds like a great bang for buck!

Too bad they didn't have the Hyper TX2 in the list of heatsinks compared, I would have liked to see how this heatsink compares to mine.

Is this a lot better and quieter than the stock e2xxx cooler?

EDIT: I bit on it, for $17 I don't think I'm going to do much better than this.

Some of got the CM Hyper TX2 for FAR so there are some better deals

That being said, this looks like a great deal anyway and I could always use a spare 775 cooler...

The Hyper TX2 has only 3 pins so no PWM.This Rosewill has it so it is indeed a good deal considering the Akasa cost 10 bucks more.

Thanks Zap for bringing this little jewel to my attention for the first time.

Wow, thats nuts, I was just looking at this cooler on newegg but couldn't find any reviews on the product. Then the next day I find this deal with free shipping. Thanks OP.

Thanks AmberClad for pointing out its clone. I have found a few reviews on the Akasa AK-965 and it seams to perform on par with similar type coolers, but for half the price, yay.

As for the Cooler Master Hyper TX2 comparison, as mentioned by TedTalker, the Rosewill comes with a 4 pin PWM, so while at low speed the Hyper TX2 outperforms the Rosewill RCX-Z775-LX (by 1.5 degrees), at high speeds the Rosewill is much cooler(almost 8 degrees).

For anyone thats intrested, here is the products specs page. Can anyone find the specs on this particular fan? And has anyone had any luck at replacing it?

Without actually having that HSF on hand, I think it's the same style of fan as the Silverstone FN82, i.e. a fan that has 92mm blades but uses 80mm fan mounting holes (even the rear spiral grill looks similar). Note that the FN82 is a non-PWM, so it's not the exact same fan (same blade count and geometry though...). But the fan size info might be useful if you're looking to replace it for some reason.

Those Silverstones I mentioned are dead silent at half-speed (fan controller), even mounted externally like both of mine are.

I'm going to try to custom mount a Yate Loon 120mm fan on this heatsink.

I had an adapter back when I had a Cooler Master Hyper TX2 that let me mount 120mm fans onto it, and the performance difference was massive. I'm talking a huge drop in DB combined with double digit temperature drops at load.

We'll see if those performance numbers can be replicated. I'm willing to do a full review on it, idle and load at stock speeds, idle and load over-clocked, compared to stock LGA cooler and then an update later with the 120mm custom fitted.

Can anyone who has received this give a quick synopsis or review for us?

I would love to hear what this HSF can do

That was my plan too. I was either going to go with a 120mm fan (though might be too big for my case) or replace the current 2200rpm stock 92mm fan with a higher performance 92mm fan I have laying around.

Another bumb for a review!!!!!

Usually Newegg stuff gets to me the very next business day, but nothing yet. Not to mention my parts from Directron don't have an estimated shipping date until Thursday. Looks like it's going to be the end of the week when I finally review this bad boy for you guys.
